Villarreal to Win

Reason for tip

Villarreal have won four of their last five home games and have more to gain than the visitors, who cannot be relegated or challenge for Europe. Sevilla have failed to win three of their last five away La Liga fixtures and are without several key players through injury and suspension.

Yellow Submarines on song at home

Villarreal’s solid home form should see them past a depleted Sevilla side in Saturday’s clash of mid-table La Liga clubs.

The Yellow Submarines have won four of their last five home matches, only suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid at Estadio de la Ceramica since the start of March.

Sevilla arrive in good form too, having secured their fourth win in five when beating Granada 3-0 at home last weekend. Los Nervionenses are unbeaten in four road games too but will be without the services of key centre-back Loic Bade through suspension here while Nemanja Gudelj, Oliver Torres, Erik Lamela and Isaac Romero are sidelined through injury.

Sevilla in a state of flux

Villarreal will be much closer to full strength for this and although they are unlikely to bridge the seven-point gap to Real Betis in the last European place over the course of the last four games, they have more to gain from this match than the visitors.

At least head coach Marcelino, who is under contract for two more seasons, looks likely to stay while the future of Sevilla counterpart Quique Sanchez Flores is highly uncertain.

A number of the Sevilla players will be gone this summer in an anticipated clearout, which also adds to the suspicion that we will not see the best version of them this weekend.
