Leeds to Win

Reason for tip

Leeds boast the best home record in the Championship this season and despite going off the boil in recent weeks, their need for the points is greater than Southampton’s, with the visitors having lost three matches on the spin.

Leeds 2-0

Reason for tip

Leeds’s last two home victories have been by a two-goal margin, including a 2-0 success over Millwall, while Southampton have taken just one point from their last four road fixtures, failing to score in two of those games.

Leeds vs Southampton Predictions

  • Leeds must win and hope Ipswich lose to secure automatic promotion
  • The Whites boast the best home record in the Championship
  • Southampton have taken just one point from their last four away fixtures

Hosts to do their part

A run of one win in five matches means Leeds’s automatic promotion hopes are out of their own hands heading into the final day, as they must now beat Southampton and hope rivals Ipswich lose to Huddersfield to secure a top-two finish.

While that sequence of events seems unlikely, the Whites can at least do their part, as they boast the best home record in this season’s Championship, winning 16 of their 22 games, although their sole defeat did come in their most recent match at Elland Road against Blackburn.

However, Southampton could prove the ideal opponents for Daniel Farke’s side, as the Saints are already secured of their play-off place and have gone off the boil in recent weeks.

Saints thinking about play-offs

Southampton looked like they’d played their way back into the automatic promotion equation themselves just a few weeks ago, but a run of three successive defeats has put paid to those hopes.

It is the play-offs for Russell Martin’s side and they appear to have more than one eye on those matches.

The Saints have taken just one point from their last four road fixtures, failing to score in two of those, and they may struggle to net again on Saturday.

Leeds’s last two home successes, against Millwall and Hull, have been by two-goal margins and a 2-0 home victory looks a solid bet, but whether that is enough to seal automatic promotion for the Whites remains to be seen.
