108/1 golf double for the Dutch Open & Fortinet Championship

The European Tour action rumbles on with the Dutch Open this week and there’s also the small matter of the first tournament of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, the Fortinet Championship, both of which start on Thursday.

The Dutch takes place at a new venue – Bernardus Golf – while the Fortinet, formerly known as the Safeway Open, heads back to familiar Silverado Country Club. We’ve got a 108/1 double to get stuck into.

You can see our two winners selections below, and make sure to check out our dedication Golf Tips section too.

Dutch Open & Fortinet Championship winners double

Bernardus Golf, built by a Dutch billionaire and only opened in 2018, is a new venue for the European Tour and, as such, most of the field will be having their first look at the golf course.

However, with calm weather forecast throughout, this looks a straightforward test for these European professionals, who should enjoy plenty of birdie chances around this 7425-yard par-72 which features four par-fives which should be reached in two.

Thomas Pieters heads the market but the Belgian bomber is hard to predict and preference is for American Johannes Veerman, who shed his European Tour maiden tag with victory at last month’s Czech Masters.

Veerman could only finish 71st at last week’s BMW PGA Championship but that was in a far stronger field and he played solid golf at times, carding a second-round 66 but struggling on Sunday when out of contention.

He has Dutch heritage – his father is from the Netherlands – so he shouldn’t lack motivation this week.

In the US, the Fortinet Championship looks to revolve around Jon Rahm, the world number one who tees it up at Silverado a week before going to war in the Ryder Cup.

Europe’s Spanish bull will doubtless have Whistling Straits on his mind, but that is unlikely to stop him from playing well at Silverado, where his masterful driving should be seen to great effect.

Rahm, with form figures of 1-7-3-3-9-2 from his last six starts, has been beaten by just one of this week’s rivals in that period – Lucas Herbert finished one shot ahead of him at the Scottish Open.

Anything close to his A-game should be good enough for Rahm, who was 15th in his only previous Silverado start – an encouraging effort considering that came five years ago when he was ranked outside the world’s top 100.
