The Community Shield is the traditional curtain raiser for the new season and on Saturday we get to see FA Cup winners Leicester go head-to-head with Premier League champions Manchester City in the first elite-level action of the campaign.

Leicester have played in just two Community Shields in their history, losing their 2016 tie but winning their previous appearance all the way back in 1971.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have taken part in five of the last ten Community Shield ties and have won two of the last three. Who will claim the first silverware of the 2021/22 term and, more importantly, will our tasty looking 15/1 bet builder start the new season with a win?

Leicester double chance

Manchester City may be favourites but they are missing a lot of their first team players, with Phil Foden injured and Kyle Walker, John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Ferran Torres and Oleksandr Zinchenko all not featuring in any pre-season fixture. Few, if any, of these are likely to start on Saturday.

Leicester have a few injury concerns but they will field a strong and well-rested lineup. They face a Citizens’ side that lost three of their final five games last season and with three of the last four Community Shield fixtures being level after the break the Foxes have a good chance here.

Both teams to score

Both teams have scored in four of the last five Community Shield fixtures and both Leicester and Man City ended last season with an excellent attacking record.

The Foxes hit the back of the net in each of their last ten competitive games and haven’t failed to score since the start of April, while Pep Guardiola’s side have only failed to score twice in their last 19 matches in all competitions, with both of those failures coming against Chelsea.

Jamie Vardy to score anytime

Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick at the Etihad last season and has netted four times in his last four appearances against Manchester City.

The former England international scored eight goals in his 14 appearances against the so-called Big Six last season and tends to start the season in fine goalscoring form before tailing off towards the end of the campaign.

Riyad Mahrez to have 1+ shot on target

Riyad Mahrez is almost certain to start after a full summer of rest and the Algerian attacker will be one of the main threats to his former club’s back line on Saturday.

Mahrez has hit the target ten times in his last nine competitive games for Manchester City and has only failed to test the keeper twice in this period.

Caglar Soyuncu to have 1+ shot

Turkey defender Caglar Soyuncu is one of Leicester’s main threats from set pieces and his aerial ability generally results in him having an attempt or two on goal in most fixtures.

The 25-year-old centre back has attempted a shot in five of his last seven appearances for Leicester and has even managed to test the keeper in two of his last four.
