16/1 & 33/1 golf tips for the Cazoo Open

A week after Collin Morikawa was triumphant at The Open, the European Tour moves to Wales this week for the Cazoo Open.

Celtic Manor’s Twenty Ten course, which was designed for that year’s Ryder Cup, plays host to the tournament that was won by Romain Langasque last year.

The Frenchman does not line up this time in the 133-man field, led by England’s Matt Wallace, who is 9/1 to triumph on Sunday.

Sam Horsfield, who claimed victory at the same course in the Celtic Classic last week is rated as a 12/1 chance, while South Africa’s Justin Harding is a 16/1 shot after he tied for 19th place at Royal St George’s.

Ian Wilkerson is here to point you in the right direction for the Cazoo Open and for this week’s PGa Tour tournament, the 3M Open in Minnesota.

Cazoo Open predictions and betting tips

Cazoo Open course guide and where to watch

Course: Twenty Ten Course, Celtic Manor, Newport, Wales

Par: 72

Field: 133

Where to watch: Live on Sky Sports Golf at 11.30am on Thursday

Cazoo Open winner prediction: Aaron Rai at 16/1

It is a far less illustrious field than the one that assembled in the Garden of England alst week, but one player who should be full of confidence after a fine Sandwich performance is Aaron Rai.

The Wolverhampton man claimed 19th spot, which was a decent achievement for a player battling for the Claret Jug for the first time and it will have been reassuring that he can make bold challenges after missing the cut in his previous two Majors.

As the 100th ranked player in the world, there are only four Celtic Manor competitors who are higher in the list and his showing last week came after he was 12th at the Irish Open three weeks ago.

He was subsequently 35th when defending his Scottish Open title but he recovered from an indifferent 71 in the opening round to record three consecutives spins of 68.

His game is in a good place and he can improve upon his two showings at the course last year when he finished 31st and 44th, so expect a bold challenge from the two-time European Tour winner.

Cazoo Open outsider prediction: Daniel van Tonder at 33/1

South African Daniel van Tonder won the Kenya Savannah Classic earlier this year and is usually a strong force on his home continent, but there have been signs recently that he is becoming more comfortable in European conditions.

He leads the European Tour in strokes gained off the tee and he was 12th at the BMW International Open in Germany recently in an effort that included a third-round 65.

Van Tonder missed the cut at the Irish Open by a single shot and while he also failed to make the weekend at the Scottish Open, he made a bold start at Royal St George’s with opening rounds of 68 and 66.

He finished 40th but it was a decent performance and he is capable of making a big impression among this sort of company.
