16/1 & 36/1 golf tips for this week's European Masters!

Scottie Scheffler will be putting his feet up this week after claiming another huge prize at the Tour Championship, the climax to the PGA Tour, so the spotlight falls on the DP World Tour as it visits one of the most picturesque courses on the planet.

Sheffield’s former US Open champion and two-time Crans Montana winner Matt Fitzpatrick will lead the field to the stunning Cran-sur-Sierre in the heart of the Swiss Alps, hoping he can better the third spot he claimed there 12 months ago when Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg sealed a two-shot win.

European Masters outright prediction – Thriston Lawrence at 16/1

While Fitzpatrick will enjoy plenty of support this week due to his course record, it has not been a marquee season for the Ryder Cup star as he failed to qualify for the Tour Championship and has posted just three top-ten finishes this year.

While he may not appeal much at single-figure prices, another former European Masters winner looks like he could be the man to beat.

Thriston Lawrence won a playoff against Matt Wallace two years ago when he tamed the test with an opening 62, and he tops the strokes-gained-putting statistics, which could tip the balance on a course where players are aided by extra ball-flight due to the altitude.

After solid performances in the autumn, which is not uncommon for South African players in their local events, Lawrence has hit another purple patch.

He was second at the European Open in June and then finished an eye-catching fourth at The Open at Royal Troon.

He then won a three-round Sunshine tour event in his homeland by five shots and finished second behind Niklas Norgaard at last week’s British Masters.

A strong push in the remainder of the season could help the man who sits 62nd in the rankings to push into a top-50 spot for the first time, and he can take another step forward this week.

European Masters each-way prediction – Romain Langasque at 35/1

Frenchman Romain Langasque is a player with some impressive recent numbers and a second DPWT victory for the 2020 Wales Open champion may not be far away.

He was ninth at the European Open before finishing third in a quality field at the Scottish Open, which should have pushed him on to a big finish at the Open, but he was forced to withdraw at Troon due to a back injury.

However, his second at the Danish Championship behind fellow countryman Frederic Lacroix displayed no ill-effects and he can improve on his best Crans-sur-Sierre finish of seventh in 2016.
