The closest title battle since the tumultuous 2021 campaign resulted in Max Verstappen winning a fourth successive World Drivers’ Championship in 2024, but Red Bull Racing relinquished their stranglehold on the World Constructors Championship and 2025 is shaping up to be an even more intriguing battle.

Pre-season testing saw McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes put in strong showings and, while Red Bull had a difficult weekend, we all know what Max Verstappen can do behind the wheel of a Formula One car.

With this weekend’s trip to Australia looming ever closer, I take a look at some of the best outright bets for 2025.

Formula One 2025 season outright predictions

Ferrari to win the World Constructors’ Championship at 11/8

Provided you haven’t been living under a rock, you may have heard that Lewis Hamilton is donning the red of Ferrari now, and his arrival at the team could coincide with their first World Constructors’ Championship since 2008.

Pairing up with Charles Leclerc, the Scuderia have arguably the best driver pairing on the grid and the back end of last season, combined with a solid showing in pre-season testing, suggests they could have enough to topple reigning champions and 5/6 favourites McLaren.

McLaren were slightly faster in testing, but they were small margins and the world-class driving duo could tip the scales towards Maranello.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton should be expected to grow into his new surroundings as the season goes on, and Leclerc showed peerless consistency throughout last season.

The 40-year-old Hamilton is showing a hunger for competition that has been perhaps absent during the last few years in the ailing Mercedes, and he faces a real battle on his hands if he wants to better his teammate.

This could push both drivers to new heights.

As for the other competitors, Red Bull’s season was almost derailed by off-grid spectacles, the departure of Adrian Newey, and the obliteration of their machinery edge.

Pre-season testing does not seem to have narrowed the gap to McLaren or Ferrari, and in Liam Lawson they effectively have a rookie trying to keep the pace of the peerless Verstappen. That hasn’t worked out well for Christian Horner in the past, and it is unlikely to reclaim the World Constructors’ Championship this year, either.

Mercedes looked decent in pre-season testing, but George Russell is a step below the likes of Leclerc, Hamilton, and Verstappen and, in rookie Kimi Antonelli, they face the same problem that Red Bull do with Lawson.

Charles Leclerc to win the World Drivers’ Championship at 9/2

Charles Leclerc finished last season with a career-best 356 points last season and his strong finish to the year makes him a good-value bet to land a maiden World Drivers’ Championship.

The 27-year-old finished outside the top five just three times in the entirety of 2024 and ended the year with eight podiums in the final 12 races, both of which are more than any other driver on the grid.

This race-day consistency, combined with his well-known one-lap pace in qualifying, make him a force to be reckoned with this year.

As mentioned, Lewis Hamilton will provide stiff competition to the Monegasque driver, but the 40-year-old may take a while to get up to speed in his new machinery and that could allow Leclerc to build an early season lead over his teammate.
