262/1 Winners double for ZOZO & Mallorca Open

The Zozo Championship takes place in Japan on the PGA Tour this week and in Europe the action comes from the Mallorca Golf Open.

Our golf expert Steve Palmer is back with a winners double ahead of the two events and you can see his selections below, and don’t forget to check out our dedicated Golf Tips and the rest of our Sports Tips too!

ZOZO Championship & Mallorca Golf Open Winners Double

World number three Collin Morikawa can lead a 262/1 double this week as the PGA Tour heads to Japan and the European Tour stays in Spain.

Morikawa was excellent in the Ryder Cup last month, going through four matches unbeaten on his debut in the competition, he then carried that form into the CJ Cup in Las Vegas last week.

Morikawa fired a final-round 62, making an eagle at the 72nd hole and losing by a shot, so he jetted to Japan for the Zozo Championship in possession of his A-game.

The two-time Major champion has experience of Narashino Country Club from the 2019 Zozo – he tied for 22nd place despite arriving as a PGA Tour rookie with hardly any overseas experience – and the tight, tree-lined track suits his style of play.

Tee-to-green precision is the key to success at Narashino and Morikawa is a relentlessly accurate operator. His father is Japanese and motivation is high for the Zozo.

On the European Tour, the Mallorca Open may provide a breakthrough for Wilco Nienaber, who is one of the most promising youngsters on the circuit.

Nienaber is a South African giant blessed with effortless power off the tee – he has the ability to demolish par-fives – and the Santa Ponsa layout in Mallorca could be at his mercy.

The Canary Islands Swing of the European Tour season was dominated by South Africans – all three events went to Nienaber’s fellow countrymen – and it could be the same story in the Balearic Islands this week.

Nienaber’s last four European Tour starts have been solid, including sixth place in the Spanish Open, and this week’s venue sets up wonderfully for him. He got off the mark on the Sunshine Tour in May – and his first European Tour success could be coming on Sunday.
