Every single season, without fail, a relatively unknown player explodes onto the scene and lights the Premier League up. It’s one of the most exciting aspects of the Premier League season, trying to predict who will have their career changing season.

Last season, we saw Harry Kane come into the Premier League setup in November, and proceed to dominate the scoring charts for the next 6 months. Charlie Austin impressed as well, and Danny Ings earned himself a move to Liverpool. Arsenal introduced Francis Coquelin into their squad after injury problems in the centre of the park, and the youngster earned himself a new deal at the Emirates.

Here, we take a look at some of the youngsters who could make their breakthrough to the big time in the coming season.

Andreas Pereira – Manchester United

Andreas Pereira has been on the radar for a year or so for the die hard Manchester United fans out there. The 19 year old attacking midfielder is versatile enough to play all across the midfield area, and impressed immensely in the Under 21s last season.

He came on as a substitute for his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace at the end of last season, and has featured heavily in Manchester United’s pre season tour so far. He scored a header against San Jose Earthquakes, and his talent on the ball has got the Old Trafford contingent excited by his prospects.

Manchester United may have a wealth of midfielders to choose from, but his inclusion in the pre season tour suggests that Louis Van Gaal is ready to introduce him to some first team action in the coming season.

Jerome Sinclair – Liverpool

This young Liverpool winger was brought into Brendan Rodgers’ squad at the end of last season. The 18 year old was brought on against Chelsea and Crystal Palace in May, and his pace and skill on the ball despite his tender age got Liverpool fans excited.

The departure of Raheem Sterling could well be a huge boost to Jerome Sinclair’s chances at being implemented more in the coming season. Jordan Ibe will also be competing for a regular position on the Liverpool wing, so the 2 youngsters should push each other to improve.

Kelechi Iheanacho – Manchester City

The 18 year old Nigerian striker has some top quality players to contend with next season, but his performances in pre-season have certainly done his chances of first team football no harm.

He played against AS Roma in Manchester City’s International Champions Cup match, scoring a goal himself and setting up new signing Raheem Sterling for his goal.

The youngster seems very determined to break into the first team in the coming season, but it will be no easy task when he has Sergio Aguero to contend with. However, should Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic depart the Etihad he may well get a good amount of game time whilst learning from arguably the best striker in the world.

Bertrand Traore – Chelsea

Jose Mourinho may not be the most renowned manager in the world for giving his youth team players a chance, but he has recently come out and said that he has no intention of sending his promising young attacking midfielder out on loan this season.

And why would he? The young attacking midfielder, who also plays on the right wing, spent last season on loan at Vitesse, and managed to net an impressive 14 goals and provide 5 assists in 33 appearances.

This is a quite incredible return for a 19 year old who isn’t even a striker. Considering Mourinho’s indecision with his right wing role, Bertrand Traore could well be a new feature in the Chelsea team in the coming season, especially since he has been included in their pre-season tour of the United States.

Duncan Watmore – Sunderland

Out of all the players in this list, Duncan Watmore is the one who has the most chance of breaking into the first team squad this season. Sunderland haven’t blown anyone away in the transfer market so far, and their struggles last season will be causing Dick Advocaat some concern. He will need to shift the squad around, and 21 year old winger Watmore seems like a dead cert to stake his claim.

He was named ‘Revelation of the Tournament’ in England Under 20s’ Toulon campaign recently, and he was also named Player of the Year in the Under 21 Premier League last season.

Considering Sunderland’s distinct lack of imagination or talent last season, surely Duncan Watmore can break into the squad, and should his development continue on a similar course as the last year, he should stay there for the remainder of the season.
