The European Masters and Tour Championship take the limelight in the world of golf this week and once again we have tipping expert Steve Palmer on hand to give us his best bets.
A big outsider combined with one of the Tour Championship favourites makes for a massive each-way double.
681/1 Each-way golf double
Each-way golf double fans have got the European Masters and the Tour Championship to consider this week – and the advice is to go for a 681/1 chance. Pairing European Masters 90/1 outsider Lucas Bjerregaard with Tour Championship 13/2 poke Xander Schauffele creates enormous odds about an entirely feasible scenario.
Omega Europe Masters winner prediction – Lucas Bjerregaard at 90/1
Bjerregaard has become an inconsistent performer over the last couple of years, which is why bookmakers are prepared to take him on with such juicy offers, but the Danish giant finished third in his last tournament and retains the ability which made him a DP World Tour star.
Bjerregaard made his breakthrough in the 2017 Portugal Masters, then followed up with victory in the 2018 Dunhill Links Championship.
Even the great Tiger Woods can vouch for how good Bjerregaard’s A-game is – Tiger suffered defeat when they met in the 2019 WGC-Match Play. Fourth place in that WGC-Match Play underlines the class of Bjerregaard and his bright weekend in the Cazoo Open last time out could mean he has turned the corner.
This was the time of the year he clicked into gear last season. A playoff defeat to Matt Fitzpatrick in the 2018 European Masters proved Bjerregaard’s liking for the Crans-sur-Sierre venue.
Tour Championship winner prediction – Xander Schauffele at 13/2
The in-form Schauffele appears to have a fantastic opportunity to win a first FedEx Cup. The Californian has consistently played well at East Lake in the Tour Championship, but has never claimed the ultimate prize.
From a six-under-par starting position this time in the handicap event, Schauffele can overtake the two players ahead of him – Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay – and lift the FedEx Cup.
Schauffele won the Tour Championship in 2017 and a total of only three players have outscored him over 72 holes in the last three editions (since the handicap system was introduced).
