8/1 and 6/1 Tennis Accumulators Land on Back-to-Back Days!
A great couple of days for us saw us land back-to-back Tennis Accumulators, on Tuesday and Wednesday, at 8/1 and 6/1 respectively!
The first of those Tennis Accumulators landed on Tuesday, and it went as follows.
Russian ace Daniil Medvedev was up first for us, and we were confident with this one. Medvedev was coming into this match in great form, after reaching a couple of semi-finals and winning the Japan Open in recent weeks, and he didn’t disappoint. The Russian took just 48 minutes to beat his Spanish opponent in straight-sets. Meanwhile, inform Frenchman Gilles Simon was up next for us. We needed Simon to beat fellow Frenchman Lucas Pouille to keep our accumulator alive, and he duly delivered. It was a comfortable win for Simon in the end, as he came out a straight-sets victor.
The toughest leg of the accumulator was up next, as we needed Canadian Milos Raonic to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three-sets. The first set went the way of Tsonga, and so we were sweating on Raonic coming back to win the final two sets. It wasn’t easy, but Raonic managed to keep our accumulator alive, as he won the final two sets, both of which went to tiebreaks. This victory left us one leg away from landing our second Tennis Accumulator in a week!
The final leg of Tuesday’s Accumulator was the one we were most confident with. We needed Novak Djokovic to win his match in straight-sets. We were extremely confident of this as Djokovic led the head-to-head between these two 5-0, and he’d never lost a set to Sousa in the past. Djokovic was also on an 18-match winning streak coming into this, and luckily for us he extended it to 19. While the first set was close, Djokovic got the decisive break, before going onto comfortably win the match in straight-sets and land our 8/1 Accumulator!
This was our second Tennis Accumulator to land on successive Tuesday’s, but we weren’t done there.
American ace John Isner kicked off our Accumulator on Wednesday, and we needed the American to win his match in three-sets. The match got off to a great start as Isner won the first set comfortably. However, the inform Mikhail Kukushkin came back at Isner in the second set, and he won it in a tiebreak to take the match into a third set. It was close all the way to the end, but when the final set reached the tie break, Isner took control to win the set, the match and hand our Accumulator the perfect start!
German ace Alexander Zverev was up next, and we just needed him to beat American Frances Tiafoe. There was no drama here, as Zverev ran out the straight-sets victor to move our Accumulator one step closer to landing. Vienna Open champion Kevin Anderson was next up, and we needed the inform South African to beat Nikoloz Basilashvili. Anderson got the break he needed to win the opening set, and it looked like he was going to get the job done in straight-sets. However, Basilashvili upped his level to win the second set in a tiebreak, to leave us sweating. The third set was just as close, but Anderson’s class told in the end, as he managed to win the set and leave us a match away from landing back-to-back Tennis Accumulators.
Rafael Nadal, who was set to return from injury, was supposed to bring our Accumulator home, by beating fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco. However, Nadal pulled out of his match only an hour or so before he was supposed to play, due to an abdominal injury. This left that match in our Tennis Accumulator void, and so the Accumulator landed at a reduced 6/1, our second successful Tennis Accumulator in two days.
It’s been a great couple of days, but let’s hope we can make it even better by landing Thursday’s Tennis Accumulator to make it three successful accumulators in as many days!
