Ahead of the Curve: Will Ruben Amorim find success at Old Trafford?

Ruben Amorim takes charge of Manchester United for the first time on Sunday as he takes his new side to face newly promoted Ipswich, and with his grand debut in mind we have asked our panel of experts whether he will be a success at Old Trafford.

As a United fan I sincerely hope so, but I think it depends more on how INEOS operate rather than his talent as a manager.
Manchester United have had talented managers in the past and all have left the club a dejected shadow of their former selves, and it would be a shame to add Amorim to that list of departures.
The 39-year-old does seem a step up tactically from his predecessors, though, so it will be nice to see the team playing with some semblance of an identity.

It’s a difficult call as the feeling is that the problems at Old Trafford lie much deeper, and patience is going to be required as he bids to stamp his authority on the squad.
United have been poor in the transfer window for some time now and it is hard to see imminent improvement given the lack of resources at his disposal. But his winning record at Sporting speaks for itself and there is no doubt that he is an excellent manager.

He will need time to sort out the mess he’s inherited but it was interesting to hear at his unveiling press conference that Amorim’s “first goal” was to stamp an “identity” on the side.
That was missing under Erik ten Hag but Amorim can eventually be a success at Old Trafford if he is given the time to replicate the ideas and tactics that worked so well for him at Sporting.
Warren Ashurst
He looks to have the demeanour and confidence of a man who believes he can be a top coach and United look to have dropped as low as they are likely to.
I think he will be a success in terms of getting them back challenging for the top-four, but it depends on what the owners allow him and his team to do in the transfer market as to whether he can deliver titles.
He at least seems intent on changing the formation and playing the way he thinks is best.
