Back our 1517/1 Spring Treble covering three sports in April

Sports Journalist at FST, Gareth qualified as a journalist after graduating from university and spent over a decade as a freelance broadcast journalist, commentator and tipster before joining FST. Now living in Manchester, he is a long suffering Bolton Wanderers fan who also enjoys boxing, the NBA, tennis and rugby league.

April is a huge month in the betting calendar with a number of huge events taking place across various different sports and we’ve put together a 1517/1 multiple covering three of the highlights.

The biggest stars in golf head to Augusta this weekend for the first major of the year, The Masters, and on Saturday Aintree racecourse hosts the Grand National.

The following Saturday the highlight of the snooker schedule begins as the top 16 players and 16 more qualifiers head to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield for the World Snooker Championship, which runs for two weeks until May 2.

Picking winners in each of these three events and combining them into one huge treble is popular among punters looking to put together a big bet so that’s exactly what we’ve done!

This treble pays out at a whopping 1517/1, read on to see who we think will claim the Green Jacket, which horse will win the world’s greatest steeplechase, who will emerge triumphant in Sheffield and to back our bet.

FST’s Spring Treble

Golf – The Masters – Thursday, 7th April

Best bet – Jon Rahm to win at 11/1

Jon Rahm has served his Augusta apprenticeship, with Masters form figures of 27-4-9-7-5, and last year his preparations were badly hampered by becoming a father just before the event.

This time, having taken a long time off at the end of last year, the Spaniard should come out all guns blazing in 2022 and be in peak condition for the Masters.

Horse Racing – The Grand National – Saturday, 9th April

Best bet – Cloth Cap to win at 22/1

Cloth Cap looked to be a staying chaser going places when winning the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in 2020, and although things haven’t gone quite as expected since, the ten-year-old is now down from a career-high mark of 156. We know that the trip and jumping test isn’t an issue for the Jonjo O’Neill-trained stayer and he can now be backed at around 22-1.

O’Neill is a past master at getting one ready for the big day and it’s worth remembering that Cloth Cap started last year’s race as the 11-2 favourite.

Snooker – The World Championship – Saturday, 16th April

Best bet – Judd Trump to win at 9/2

The snooker World Championship is one of the sporting highlights in April and much of the talk in the build-up will rightly revolve around Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson.

When on-song, those four cueman are a cut above the opposition and it would be somewhat of a surprise were one of them not to be crowned champion at the Crucible this year.

Selby is defending champion but has had a difficult season both on and off the baize, while O’Sullivan’s win in 2020 was played behind closed doors and he was a second-round casualty last year.

Despite his success, Robbo has won in Sheffield only once – way back in 2010 – and he has not gone beyond the quarter-final since 2014, which leaves Trump as the leading candidate.

Juddernaut won his maiden world title in 2019 and he appears to be hitting form at the right time, having reached the final of the Welsh Open and winning the Turkish Masters in March.
