After last week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship was ravaged by the weather and reduced to a 54-hole affair that finished on Monday, the DP World Tour moves to sunnier climes this week for the Open de Espana.

The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid plays host and all eyes will be on Jon Rahm as he looks to secure his third victory in four years, while his victorious Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose is second in the betting.

TPC Summerlin is the stage for the Shriners Children’s Open on the PGA Tour, where Ludvig Aberg will be looking to go one better than his playoff defeat at last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship.

The Swede shares favouritism with defending champion and fellow starlet Tom Kim, and out betting expert Ian WIlkerson has an each-way double that could pay out at 365/1.

Open de Espana winner prediction – Yannik Paul at 25/1

World number three Rahm is clearly the man to beat in Spain this week and there is a strong chance that the Masters champion could run away with things, just as he did 12 months ago when he claimed a six-hot success.

However, those looking to oppose him may point to a disappointing campaign in the FedEx Cup playoffs so despite the fact he is the undoubted star of the field, backing on of his challengers at a bigger price could be the way forward.

That’s where Germany’s Yannik Paul comes in. While he has not tasted a DP World Tour victory since the Mallorca Open a year ago, he has been a regular challenger at that level.

He was sixth at the recent Open de France, which was his seventh top-ten finish since his victory in the Balearics, and his 14th in the disrupted tournament in Scotland last week was a decent effort.

Paul was eighth last year when he was curtailed by a modest start and, if he can hit the ground running in the Spanish capital this time, then he could even get the better of the home hero.

Shriners Children’s Open winner prediction – Tom Kim at 12/1

It was a packed leaderboard at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi last week, with five players involved in a playoff in which Luke List emerged triumphant.
Aberg was one of the quartet left disappointed and many will fancy the Swede to make his PGA Tour breakthrough this week, but he may have to play second fiddle to another of the game’s rising stars.

Tom Kim has claimed two Stateside triumphs despite being only 21 and one of those triumphs was a three-shot success in the Shriners Children’s Open 12 months ago.

The South Korean has continued to develop and has claimed a top-20 finish in six of his last seven tournaments, which bodes well at a time when many of the game’s big names are putting their feet up.

He was eighth at the US Open and second behind Brian Harman at the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in July and his sixth at the Open de France was a good enough last run to suggest he can make a successful defence in Las Vegas.
