Born in the south east of Ireland, Simon put his life-long love of football to good use when he started a successful independent blog in 2010. That opened up an alternative route to a career in journalism, and having had work published across a number of sites and publications, Simon joined the staff at Spotlight Sports Group in 2018.

Frank Lampard has had to endure a difficult start to his Chelsea managerial career, after he and his new employers were forced to digest a double dose of misery inside the space of 5 days this week.

After Chelsea’s opening Premier League weekend 4-0 battering at Old Trafford, the Blues were undone by Liverpool in the European Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday, eventually losing out 5-4 on penalty kicks to Jurgen Klopp’s men follwing a 2-2 draw.

On Sunday, Chelsea are presented with their latest opportunity to kick-start their season and Lampard’s tenure against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues will be desperate to land the positive result that their performances to date have probably deserved.

Chelsea’s opponents, Leicester, needed the intervention of the VAR system to hold on to a point at home to Wolves last weekend, but despite that disappointing opening salvo, the Foxes will fancy their chances of bloodying the nose of a Chelsea team that they took 4 Premier League points off last season.

Sunday’s game in West London has an incredibly open look to it, which in turn opens up a huge range of betting options, markets and possibilities to consider.

At bet365, you can make the most of that wide range of options by customising and creating a unique bet for the game by using their Bet Builder.

What is bet365’s Bet Builder?

Bet Builder allows you create the bet YOU want on any football match. You can choose from a list of the most popular markets and once you have added them to your bet, you can calculate the odds from your customised selection.

For example, you could combine first goalscorer, both teams to score, the total number of corners and the full-time result to create one single bet with the price for your multi-part selection.

You can add up to 6 separate markets to your Bet Builder selection, and your odds will update automatically each time you add a new selection.

Once you are finished and happy with your selections, select the price displayed on the Bet Builder slip and your unique bet will be added to your bet slip.

Chelsea vs Leicester City Bet Builder Tips

Both Teams to Score

It’s been an unusual start to the season for Chelsea, whose performances haven’t quite returned the results they might have deserved.

The Blues were humiliated at Old Trafford by Manchester United in a 4-0 rout on Sunday, though Chelsea were left to rue a series a great missed goalscoring opportunities along with the brace of first half efforts that hit the woodwork.

Against Liverpool in Istanbul, Chelsea were rewarded for their slick attacking football with 2 goals in a game they ultimately lost on penalties, though the early patterns of their play suggest that the Blues will be a much more penetrative team this season under Frank Lampard than they were under Maurizio Sarri.

Leicester City were unable to to open their account for the season against Wolves last week, and although the Foxes regularly struggle to carve open teams at the King Power Stadium, they are much more consistent in front of goal on the road.

City only failed to register in 1 of their last 10 Premier League away fixtures, and with their habit of netting on their travels placed alongside Chelsea’s improved attacking verve, there’s great value in backing both teams to score at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

We publish new both teams to score betting tips with fresh fixtures to choose from every day here. Make sure to check them out.

Jamie Vardy to score anytime

Jamie Vardy’s reputation for producing the goods against the Premier League’s best teams is both well established and outstanding.

The 32-year old has developed a particular penchant for notching goals at the league’s most famous venues, and since the start of 2014-15, Vardy has scored 12 away Premier League goals against the ‘big six’ – which is three more than any other player.

Vardy scored the only goal of the game in last season’s corresponding fixture between Chelsea and Leicester at Stamford Bridge in late December 2018, and we think he’s a prime candidate to repeat the trick in the anytime goalscorer market.

Jamie Vardy has also scored 5 career goals against Premier League champions Manchester City, and Pep Guardiola’s side feature in our bet365 Bet Builder special for Man City’s meeting with Tottenham on Saturday.

Under 4 cards in the game for both teams combined

In 2017/18, Chelsea and Leicester ranked among the six best behaved teams in the Premier League, picking up 49 and 57 yellow cards across their respective campaigns.

Unsurprisingly then, Chelsea and Leicester’s two league meetings last term produced little in the way of indiscretion, and just three yellow cards were handed out to the players on both teams over the 180 minutes of action.

Squeaky clean Leicester picked up where they left off against Wolves last week, and the Foxes were among a group of six Premier League clubs that didn’t pick a single yellow card in the season’s first round of fixtures.

Chelsea picked up 4 yellows on a frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford, though we expect that figure to return to more normal levels against anotoriously placid Leicester team.

With that in mind, we think there are likely to be under four cards in total shown by the referee at Stamford Bridge again this weekend.

Incidentally, the referee for Sunday’s game, Graham Scott, handed out three or fewer cards in nine of the last 11 matches he has officiated.

Over 9 corners in the match for both teams combined

While there was a modest number of cards shown in Chelsea’s two league meetings with Leicester last season, the corner count from the fixtures was notably high.

An average of 11.5 corners were awarded across the two Premier League fixtures contested by the teams at Stamford Bridge and the King Power Stadium respectively.

Leicester supporters are used to seeing plenty of corner kicks in their team’s games – the Foxes average corners per game figure for the 2018/19 season was 11.84, and last weekend, Leicester’s game with Wolves saw 15 corners awarded.

Chelsea’s equivalent corner average for last season of 9.85 falls short of Leicester’s, though the figure still lands north of our forecasted corner total for Sunday’s game.

Most goals to be scored in the 2nd half

Chelsea’s matches with Leicester in recent seasons have generally started slowly before exploding into life in the second period.

In fact, if you look at the spread of goals from the last 10 encounters between the Foxes and the Blues between 2015 and this year, you’ll see that 62.5% (15 of 24) of them were scored in the second half of the fixtures.

More recently, 75% (3 of 4) of the goals scored in the last trio of tussles between the clubs were scored after the break.

In addition, of the 8 goals scored in Chelsea’s 2 competitive matches so far this season, 6 were registered in the second 45-minute period.

We think there is a great chance that Sunday’s game will follow the well-worn route ploughed by Chelsea and Leicester in previous meetings, and we’re tipping the second half of their latest contest to see more goals again.
