Cheltenham Festival 2023: Massive 273/1 Championship race acca!

Although a loyal Northampton Town supporter, Aaron closely follows the action across all of Europe’s elite divisions.

For racing fanatics, the Cheltenham Festival is the best week in the sporting calendar and the National Hunt’s showpiece event is just over a week away.

Four extraordinary days of equine action get underway on Tuesday, 14th March and that is when the battle will commence between punters and bookmakers in what is arguably the biggest betting event of the year.

The Cheltenham roar will get the pulses racing once the starter raises the tape for the first race of the meeting, the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, and with 28 races to embrace across the week there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Each of the four days features a Championship race and to raise the excitement levels, we’ve picked out a four-fold accumulator that pays out at 273/1. If you’re looking for more tips, look no further than our Cheltenham Festival 2023 tips here!

Constitution Hill to win the Champion Hurdle at 2/7 (Tuesday, 15:30)

Constitution Hill will be the shortest-priced favourite of the week, but the Nicky Henderson-trainer phenomenon should have few concerns making it a perfect six from six under rules in the Champion Hurdle.

The six-year-old demolished likely Arkle favourite Jonbon by 22 lengths when sauntering home in last year’s Supreme, but has looked even better in two starts since stepping out of novice company.

Constitution Hill defeated 2020 Champion Hurdle winner and last year’s runner-up Epatante by 12 lengths in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and then defeated her by 17 lengths in the Christmas Hurdle, taking the two Grade One prizes without coming off the bridle.

The son of Blue Bresil looks a superstar in the making and has plenty in hand on the figures over his rivals.

Edwardstone to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 15/8 (Wednesday, 15:30)

With bold front-runners Editeur Du Gite and Gentleman De Mee going to ensure this is run at a real clip, that ought to play to the strengths of last season’s Arkle hero Edwardstone.

The much-improved Editeur Du Gite fought back to get the better of Edwardstone by a head in the Clarence House Chase (changed from Ascot) over course-and-distance at the end of January, with Energumene disappointing six lengths back in third.

With Blue Lord likely to step up in trip, that trio are likely to dominate the betting.

But Editeur Du Gite got his own way in front that day, which looks unlikely this time around, while the forecast drier ground at the Festival should ensure Edwardstone gets his revenge.

The Alan King-trained nine-year-old won the Arkle at last year’s Festival by four-and-a-half lengths while his emphatic nine-length victory in the Tingle Creek in December, in which he had Shishkin and Gentleman De Mee in behind, looks the best form on offer.

Home By The Lee to win the Stayers’ Hurdle at 11/2 (Thursday, 15:30)

There is a real open look to this year’s Stayers’ Hurdle with likely favourite Blazing Khal having to prove he doesn’t bounce and can follow up his comeback win after 428 days in the Boyne Hurdle, while there is a feeling that Teahupoo would be much happier on softer ground.

Nicky Henderson’s mare Marie’s Rock, who has won her last five completed starts, would be a danger to all if choosing this option but she does have stamina to prove, unlike the Joseph O-Brien-trained Home By The Lee.

The eight-year-old is in the form of his life having already won the Lismullen Hurdle and the Christmas Hurdle this season and on both occasions he had Flooring Porter, who is chasing a third straight win in this race, soundly beaten.

Home By The Lee was only sixth in this race last year but that turned into a tactical affair and none finished stronger than him as he got to within seven lengths of the winner at the line.

Even so, Home By The Lee is a much-improved version of himself this season and of those currently at the head of the betting he is by some way the safest betting propisition.

Noble Yeats to win the Gold Cup at 10/1 (Friday, 15:30)

Galopin Des Champs will be all the rage in Friday’s Gold Cup but, in what is always a truly run race, he does still have to prove he has the stamina for this test.

Last year’s winner A Plus Tard pulled up in the Betfair Chase when last seen in November so there are fitness concerns with him, while Bravemansgame has done all his winning on flat tracks more renowned for speed.

That may mean last year’s Grand National hero Noble Yeats is the value play for the shrewd Emmet Mullins yard.

Noble Yeats’ guaranteed stamina is a good asset for this race while he also displayed plenty of pace when beating Ahoy Senor and Sounds Russian to win the Many Clouds chase at Aintree in December.
