Euro 2020 group winner predictions & 63/1 tip

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

There’s less than a week to go until Euro 2020 and we have all angles covered here at FST. We’ve already picked out our outright winners of the tournament, but who will come out on top from each group?

Back in December we landed a 57/1 Champions League group stage accumulator and we’re going again with a six-fold of group winners at Euro 2020. Below you can see all six selections, which can be backed in a 63/1 accumulator.

For more coverage of this summer’s tournament, see our latest Euro 2020 coverage.

Group A winner – Italy

Italy host the opening game of the tournament and they are at home for all three group games. The Italians are seventh-favourites with the bookies, but they’ve built a brilliant side under Roberto Mancini. Their 4-3-3 has modernised them, with possession happy central midfielders linking up a typically Italian defence with some talented attacking options. We think they’ll prove too strong for Turkey, Wales and Switzerland.

Group B winner – Belgium

Belgium finished third at the 2018 World Cup but they do have some issues to contend with going into this tournament. Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard have fitness issues, but Romelu Lukaku is coming in on the back of his strongest season. This golden generation have all aged to their peak, so we can see them dealing with Denmark, Russia and Finland with ease. At 8/11, the Red Devils are generously priced to top their group for the third time in four tournaments.

Group C winner – Ukraine

At 9/2 this is our biggest group winner tip, but Ukraine look well placed to topple the Dutch in Group C. While Holland are favourites for first place, their manager Frank de Boer has won only 49% of his matches across his last four jobs. A 4-2 defeat by Turkey in World Cup qualifying suggests they’re vulnerable. Ukraine qualified top of a group containing Portugal in qualifying and they can pull off a shock here.

Group D winner – England

While this group brings a competitive meeting with old rivals Scotland, it’s the opener with Croatia which will dictate England’s path to the next round. The Three Lions are at home for all three games and with substantial support expected at Wembley Gareth Southgate’s men should do well. While their knockout round prospects look tough, England should have too much for Croatia, the Scots and Czech Republic.

Group E winner – Spain

Second spot in this group looks quite open, with Poland traditionally underachieving at this tournament, Sweden looking solid but uninspiring and with Slovakia boasting some talent. None of that trio have much chance of stopping Spain from winning the group. While the Spanish aren’t among the very best in the tournament they are the strongest of the four and they host all three games in Seville.

Group F winner – France

Germany are favourites to win the group, despite them crashing out at the group stage of the 2018 World Cup. France won that tournament, while they reached the final of the previous Euros on home soil. The French have won their group at each of their last three major tournaments and Germany are going through issues, losing 2-1 to North Macedonia and 6-0 to Spain lately. While the French also have Portugal to contend with, the reigning champions drew all three group games in 2016 and finished third. The Portuguese haven’t finished first in their group since Euro 2008.
