GW12 Fantasy Football Tips

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool, £13.0m)

So the Egyptian King is yet to be recording the same numbers he managed last season – and for that reason alone some would argue he’s not worth his hefty £13.0m price tag – but at the same time, he is without a doubt Liverpool’s most dangerous asset. Five goals and four assists see him sat on 67 points – the 3rd highest total of any FPL midfielder – and you have to remember that it was around this time last year that Salah really got going too. He does average around a goal per game with the yellow Premier League winter ball after all!

And there’s arguably no better fixture for him to reignite his form than at home to Fulham on Sunday. Needless to say that Slavisa Jokanovic’s men haven’t been the most convincing defensively – in fact, not only do they travel to Anfield as the only Premier League side yet to record a clean sheet, but they’ve also conceded two goals or more in five of their six away matches this season – and if there’s any player you’d expect to take advantage of that it would be Mo Salah. And with more and more Fantasy Premier League managers opting to go Salah-less, now might be the time to opt for him.

Marko Arnautovic (West Ham, £7.1m)

Many FPL managers missed out on Arnautovic’s haul last weekend, but it’s not too late to get on board the Arnie train! The Austrian was back in full swing against Burnley following two blanks and a missed match to illness and his 12 point return helped maintain an average of roughly 5 points per game. His average of 144 minutes per goal is also the fifth best ratio among regular starting forwards… and yet he remains at his starting price of only £7.0m! And this looks just the beginning.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side has already faced five of the ‘big six’ over their opening eleven matches – a tough run for any side – but now their fixtures are set to ease. 8 of West Ham’s next 10 matches are rated 2 out of 5 on the Fixture Difficulty Ranking (FDR), continuing with a match away to struggling Huddersfield Town side. Only three teams have conceded more goals than the Terriers (21 goals scored, an average of almost two per game) and David Wagner’s side is yet to keep a clean sheet on the road.

Callum Wilson (Bournemouth, £6.7m)

Callum Wilson was electric in Bournemouth’s last outing at home to Man United. His goal in that 2-1 defeat took him up to 70 points for the season (six goals, seven assists and 8 bonus points), which makes him the second highest ranked forward in the game. Unlike some of our other recommendations, The Cherries don’t have a “favourable” run of fixtures ahead in a traditional sense, but you wouldn’t be too crazy to fancy Eddie Howes’ side to get a goal against any of Arsenal, Man City or Liverpool in the coming weeks.

Wilson is at the top of his game after overcoming some huge setbacks and a first English call-up is an event that will only do wonders for his confidence. Bournemouth travel to Newcastle on Saturday, and if you weren’t convinced already, then the Englishman’s underlying stats should make you expect more from him against the Magpies – his 13 shots on target are joint 6th, just one behind City’s Raheem Sterling (14), and just four forwards have made more than his 18 key passes.

Andrew Robertson (Liverpool, £6.4m)

Raiding left-back Andrew Robertson has been one of the standout fantasy football options so far this season. He’s made the joint 6th most key passes (13) from open play among defenders and only Mohamed Salah (24) and James Milner (15) have better numbers within the Liverpool team. The Reds’ concrete defensive form has seen him tally six clean sheets from ten matches – second best in the Premier League – along with his two assists and 9 bonus points. He ranks second in his category – only Marcos Alonso has more – and 11th overall based on total FPL points.

Liverpool’s home match against Fulham begins a run of eight favourable matches that only furthers the Scotsman’s potential – in fact, home to Man United is the only fixture ranked higher than 3 on the Fixture Difficulty Ranking (FDR) over that streak. Fulham have failed to score in 50% of their Premier League away matches so far this season and their 29 goals conceded is the worst number in the English top flight. Robertson’s combined attacking and defensive proficiency make him one to watch this weekend.

Demarai Gray (Leicester, £5.4m)

A tragic week for Leicester City Football Club was made even more emotional with a win away to Cardiff City last weekend, a fitting result for the squad to pay tribute to the late Khun Vichai. Winger Demarai Gray was the player who fired them to victory in a 1-0 win, and he’s now been involved in both Leicester’s goals since returning from injury a few weeks back. His impact would lead you to think that he will continue to be in Claude Puel’s plans against Burnley on Saturday.

Leicester will take encouragement from the Clarets’ recent run of results too. Sean Dyche’s men have conceded four goals or more in each of their last three Premier League outings, and though The Foxes might not have the same firepower as Man City, Chelsea or West Ham, you’d still fancy them for a few after hearing the following stats: no team has faced more shots against them (230) or on target (77) than Burnley. Gray has the form to take advantage of those frailties at a bargain price of just £5.4m.
