Red Bull’s epic winning streak came to an end last weekend but the first two practice sessions suggests that normal service will resume as the Formula One roadshow lands in Japan.

World Drivers’ Championship leader Max Verstappen has led both practice sessions so far, comfortably clear of the second-place Ferrari’s and even further ahead of Lando Norris, who finished third in both sessions.

With Saturday’s qualifying session and Sunday’s Grand Prix ahead of us, I’ve rounded up a few excellent looking bets with bet365, where new customers can claim up to £30 in free bets by signing up below.

Japanese Grand Prix qualifying predictions

Max Verstappen & Carlos Sainz qualifying dual forecast at 11/4

Max Verstappen looks primed to return to the top of the pile this weekend after topping the timing charts in both free practice sessions, but Ferrari have made headway on the competition and Carlos Sainz could join the Dutchman on the front row

Verstappen has qualified in the top two in nine of the last ten Grands Prix but Sainz has taken pole in two successive race weekends and has really found his best form of late, beating teammate Charles Leclerc in qualifying three races in a row and taking his first win for Ferrari last weekend.

Liam Lawson to make Q3 at 7/2

Only three drivers are longer than Liam Lawson to make the final round of qualifying but the stand-in AlphaTauri driver has impressed massively since arriving on the scene in the Dutch Grand Prix.

He made it to Q3 for the first time in Singapore and exceeded expectations when qualifying 12th at Monza in his first full Formula One weekend.

The 21-year-old was ninth on the timing board in FP1 and will be full of confidence after posting his first points last weekend. He looks a big price to qualify in the top ten.

Japanese Grand Prix predictions

Carlos Sainz to finish on the podium at 7/4

Carlos Sainz’s win in Singapore put him on the podium for the second successive race and he can make it three in a row in a Ferrari that has made big strides forward recently.

There has been a Ferrari on the podium in three of the last four races and they look quick again around the Suzuka Circuit, with both cars in the top four in both free practice sessions.

Sainz showed his race-craft to the world last weekend as he gifted second-place Lando Norris DRS in an attempt to stop the chasing George Russell passing him and he can enjoy another positive weekend in Japan.

Alex Albon points finish at 4/6

Alex Albon has consistently out-driven his Williams this season and has started to reap the rewards in recent races.

He finished just outside the points in Singapore but prior to that had ended in two successive races and four of his last seven Grands Prix.

The 27-year-old was eighth in FP1 and seventh in FP2, so he can add to his points tally on Sunday.
