FST's 60/1 #OddsOnThat special for Chelsea vs Liverpool

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

The highlight of this weekend’s Premier League action is Sunday’s encounter at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea host the champions. While no one could match the Reds in 2019/20, no side has been able to keep up with Chelsea’s spending in the transfer window. It’s hit £200million and counting, with a new goalkeeper the next target.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said his side want to challenge Liverpool after that spending spree. The Blues will get their chance this weekend, but can they put a dent in Liverpool’s title hopes? Or will the Reds outclass a Chelsea side who are still gelling together?

Ahead of this huge clash, we’ve picked out a 60/1 five-fold selection with Betfair’s #OddsOnThat. We see an entertaining clash given the attacking talents on show and that has given us a massively priced pick for the Stamford Bridge showdown.

Remember – you can find a more comprehensive analysis of the game with our expert’s verdict and betting tips in our Chelsea vs Liverpool predictions.

FST’s Chelsea vs Liverpool #OddsOnThat

2+ Liverpool Goals

Chelsea may have the shiny new signings, but they have work to do to match the achievements of Liverpool’s incredible front three. Mo Salah was amongst the goals again in the opening weekend, hitting a hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Leeds. The former Chelsea forward remains one of the biggest threats in the division, as they proved last season.

The Reds claimed 5-3 win when these two sides met in July, while they won 2-1 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the campaign. They took advantage of Chelsea’s defensive concerns, with the Blues yet to get any of their new defensive signings into the fold.

As a result, we expect Liverpool to score a couple of goals in this clash.

Key Stat: Liverpool have scored twice in four of the last five meetings between these two

5+ Liverpool Corners

Only Manchester City had more Premier League corners than Liverpool last term, with the Reds getting an average of 6.7 per game throughout their title-winning campaign. That’s hardly a surprise, with two talented corner-kick takers at full-back.

That form continued in their opening league game of the campaign, as the champions had nine corners against Leeds. Liverpool have recorded 16 corners in their last two meetings with Chelsea in all competitions, so we see the Reds getting at least five at the Bridge.

Key Stat: Liverpool averaged 6.7 corners per game last season

Timo Wener to Score

Early last season, Werner seemed destined for Anfield. However, Jurgen Klopp’s men pulled out of the race to sign him. Knowing the Premier League, Werner is likely to make them regret that decision this weekend.

After all, Liverpool have conceded 15 times in the eight games since their 2019-20 title win was confirmed in June. That carried into this season when they shipped three goals at home to newly-promoted Leeds.

Timo Werner had a bright debut for the Blues, taking 50% of Chelsea’s shots in his Premier League debut against Brighton on MD1. The German scored 34 goals in 45 games for Leipzig last season and we’re backing him to open his account for Chelsea here.

Key Stat: Werner scored 28 times in 33 Bundesliga games for Leipzig last term

Roberto Firmino to Score

We’ve talked about the threat of Liverpool’s front three, but they each bring something different upfront. Mo Salah tends to do most of his scoring at home, as does Sadio Mane.

However, the man who made the biggest impact against the Blues for Liverpool last term was Roberto Firmino, who found the net in both league meetings. Unlike his strike partners, Firmino is at his best on the road, as he scored all but one of his Premier League goals away from home last season.

Key Stat: Roberto Firmino scored home and away against Chelsea last season, he didn’t manage that against any other side

Fabinho to be Booked

With Chelsea’s midfield looking impressive, it’s going to be a busy day in the holding role for Fabinho. The Reds destroyer was key to breaking up play in the middle of the park last season, but that led to him committing 32 fouls in 28 league appearances.

Fabinho was booked six times for the Reds last season as a result of those fouls, one of which came at Stamford Bridge. We think he’s got a job on his hands to shield the defence from the likes of Kai Havertz and Mason Mount. As a result, we’re rounding off our #OddsOnThat prediction with Fabinho to be shown a yellow card.

Key Stat: Fabinho committed 32 fouls in the Premier League for Liverpool last season
