FST’s Fantasy Football team for GW1

Fantasy Football tips for GW1

Obviously more than just the GW1 fixtures needs to be considered when choosing your first Fantasy Football team of the season.

Upcoming fixtures and the season as a whole should be considered, but to avoid getting off to a meagre start we’ve opted to avoid as many Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Burnley players as possible due to their blanks in GW1.

Let’s have a look at who we have chosen though:

Goalkeeper

Aaron Ramsdale (£5.0m) steps into the big, empty shoes left behind by Dean Henderson this season, and he’s a fine replacement from the relegated Bournemouth. He’ll make the number one shirt his own and is bound to face a shedload of shots, racking up bonus points in the process.

David Martin (£4.0m) is the backup, simply because he’s one of the cheapest options out there.

Defenders

A flat back four protects Ramsdale for GW1, and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) is the standout figure. He was the highest scoring defender by far last season and is a complete no brainer, even if he’s also the most expensive member of the back-line squad.

The rest of the defence is rather subdued. Matt Doherty (£6.0) has become a firm FPL favourite since Wolverhampton’s promotion and now dons the white of Spurs. A clean sheet against Everton isn’t out of the question there.

Kyle Walker-Peters (£4.5m) and James Justin (£4.5m) are cheap but should pick up some points. Walker-Peters is expected to be Southampton’s first choice right back this season and Justin is deputising for Ricardo Pereira while he recovers from injury.

Stuart Dallas (£4.5m) started 45 of Leed United’s 46 Championship games last season, but he’s not starting for us this week as the newly promoted outfit head to Anfield.

Midfielders

Leander Dendoncker (£5.0m) is the bench warmer in the middle. The Wolves midfielder played a part in every Premier League match last season and is a solid, budget friendly option for consistent points. But he doesn’t make the starting lineup this weekend.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) is, of course, the star name here. The Arsenal goal-getter has been reclassified as a midfielder and should rack up the points with regularity this season. A trip to a Fulham side hotly tipped for relegation offers mouthwatering potential for an opening day points haul.

Dele Alli (£8.0m) won’t be everyone’s first choice Spurs midfielder, but he’s selected by just 3.6% of FPL managers and is clearly a favourite of Jose Mourinho. Alli has scored six and assisted another six since the Portuguese manager’s arrival, and if Amazon Prime has taught us anything it’s just how highly Alli is thought of. A home clash with Everton offers goalscoring opportunities for the young midfielder and Spurs have one of the easiest runs of fixtures to start the season.

Another player absolutely adored by his manager is Mason Mount (£7.0m). Chelsea may have undergone an overhaul but many expect Mount to maintain his position under Lampard, and the youngster is a cheap way into a Chelsea side that have a very favourable start to the Premier League campaign.

Finally, we head to the London Stadium with Tomas Soucek (£5.0m). The West Ham midfielder scored three times after the Premier League restart in June and accumulated a respectable number of goal attempts and big chances. He’s cheap and could turn out to be one of the bargain buys of the season if West Ham can improve.

Strikers

Tottenham’s favourable start to the season comes into play again here as we splash the cash on Harry Kane (£10.5m). The Spurs talisman ended last season with seven goals in eight games and is a very attractive option in the premium bracket.

Slightly lower in price is Chelsea new boy Timo Werner (£9.5m). He found the net 28 times in the Bundesliga last season and has a wealth of creative talent to support him at Stamford Bridge. Again, an easy start to the campaign including Monday night’s trip to the Amex makes him worth backing to get a flying start in the Premier League.

Everton have also undergone something of a revolution, but up front it’s likely to remain a Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.0m) duo. They scored 13 goals apiece last term and now have James Rodriguez to provide creativity from the number ten role. He’s benched for their opening weekend trip to Spurs, but he looks a very attractive price given his record last term.

Who to captain in Fantasy Football GW1?

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) has to be one of the frontrunners for captain’s armband in GW1. The Arsenal attacker was in scintillating form at the end of last season and his reclassification opens the door for mammoth points scoring potential.

The resurgent Gunners are widely expected to stroll to a comfortable win at Craven Cottage, and it’s no surprise given how badly Fulham’s last stint in the Premier League went.

If you’re looking for alternatives, Timo Werner (£9.5m) is renowned for his eye for goal and has already scored against Brighton in pre-season, and any of the Liverpool attackers are good bets when facing off against newly promoted Leeds at home.
