Golf betting tips: Pebble Beach Pro-Am predictions

The 2020-21 PGA Tour season continues later this week, when the stars head to the scenic Monterey Peninsula for the  AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

This year’s event will be contested without amateurs due to COVID-19, though big names such as Phil Mickelson, Jason Day and former champion Brandt Snedeker are among the golfers in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am field. However, the world’s top-ranked golfer, Dustin Johnson, dropped out of the field on Monday evening.

Below we’ve got the best golf tips around for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am from Steve Palmer with 7/1 and 18/1 picks!

We’ll also be keeping an eye on all the action using bet365’s superb Live Golf Tracker.

bet365’s Live Golf Tracker features real time shot-by-shot data, accurate ball tracking on the fairway and green, the ability to navigate between holes through the interactive course visualisation and the inclusion of live streaming of two Par-3 holes per day.

Pebble Beach Pro-Am predictions and betting tips

Dustin Johnson withdrew from the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Monday night to shake up the outright betting – the world number one opted for a week counting his Saudi International winnings at his Florida mansion rather than a chilly tournament in California – and Patrick Cantlay can take full advantage of Johnson’s absence.

Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner prediction: Patrick Cantlay at 7/1

Cantlay loves competing in his home state and his last two starts in California have resulted in first place in the Zozo Championship and a runner-up effort in The American Express. The Zozo was a high-class event in which Cantlay had to overcome Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas down the stretch, then he signed off with an 11-under-par 61 in The American Express, beaten only by an equally inspired Si Woo Kim.

Cantlay has always been one of the best scramblers on the PGA Tour – he exhibits magic touch around the greens – and that is a key attribute this week given Pebble Beach’s tiny putting surfaces. He finished 11th on his debut in the Pro-Am in 2013 and has built a solid record at Pebble, including ninth spot last year, so it would be a surprise should the much improved Cantlay fail to contend on Sunday. He has won three PGA Tour titles at the age of 28, but it must be remembered that he lost three years to injury at the start of his Tour career, so his haul is respectable enough.

Pebble Beach Pro-Am outsider prediction: Will Zalatoris at 18/1

An alternative at more than double the price of Cantlay is Will Zalatoris, another Californian who is comfortable in the conditions, relishing the poa annua greens rather than fearing them. Zalatoris, who was a relentless contender on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and finished sixth in the US Open, has started 2021 impressively and a Tour breakthrough may not take long.
