Golf Betting Tips: Sentry Tournament of Champions predictions

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

The PGA Tour kicks off 2021 this week with some of the world’s top stars heading for a January visit to Hawaii. There are certainly worse ways to start the year and a competitive field are fighting it out for glory this week.

We have coverage of the first event of the New Year below, but don’t forget that bet365 recently launched a brand-new feature to revolutionise in-play golf betting.

bet365’s Live Golf Tracker features real time shot-by-shot data, accurate ball tracking on the fairway and green, the ability to navigate between holes through the interactive course visualisation and the inclusion of live streaming of two Par-3 holes per day.

This new introduction is revolutionary to the world of in-play betting, and you can learn more about it here and sign up to bet365 using the banner below.

Sentry Tournament of Champions predictions and tips

Dustin Johnson this week makes his first appearance since winning the Masters – the latest member of the Green Jacket club teeing up in the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course, Kapalua, Hawaii.

Johnson will have plenty of supporters as favourite – he has won the Tournament of Champions twice and carded a 24-under-par total in 2018 – but changes were made to the course after the 2019 edition and DJ could manage only seventh place last year.

Sentry Tournament of Champions: course guide and where to watch

Course: Plantation Course, Kapalua Resort, Hawaii

Par: 73

Field: 42 players

Sentry Tournament of Champions: Patrick Reed at 16/1

If the new king of Augusta turns up rusty after his long absence from competition, Patrick Reed could upstage him in the opening PGA Tour event of 2021.

Reed competed in a high-class tournament which concluded on December 13 – the DP World Tour Championship – and finished third. He sharpened up his game further with a few days at the end of last year with his coach David Leadbetter and can hit the ground running in Hawaii.

Reed won this event in 2015, was second the following year and lost a Kapalua play-off to Justin Thomas 12 months ago. That shows he is comfortable with the course revision and a second Tournament of Champions triumph could be coming on Sunday.

Kapalua is an undulating layout with enormous greens – a venue which demands feel and creativity – and Reed is ideally suited to such assignments.

Sentry Tournament of Champions: Lanto Griffin at 125/1

Punters seeking a big-price outsider are pointed towards Lanto Griffin, who won the 2019 Houston Open. The 32-year-old is at ease performing in a breeze, which is typically found at Kapalua, and his excellent putting stands him in great stead upon the giant Plantation Course dancefloors.

Griffin played well on his Sentry debut last year, has been in solid recent form, and could upset the elite this week.
