The European Tour moves to Nairobi this week for the Kenya Open, where Italian Guido Migliozzi, who claimed his maiden European Tour title here in 2019, will attempt to defend his title.

Below, we have betting tips and predictions for the Kenya Open from top golf tipster Steve Palmer.

Kenya Open winner prediction: Garrick Higgo at 30/1

Kurt Kitayama has finished in the top 20 in his last three European Tour events and that has been enough for the American to secure favouritism for a low-grade Kenya Open this week. Kitayama has never competed at the Kenya Open venue though – an old track which has been staging Challenge Tour events since 2004 – and that lack of experience is off-putting.

Preference at much bigger odds is for Garrick Higgo, a 21-year-old rising star of the circuit who claimed his maiden European Tour title last September. That Open de Portugal success is not the only time Higgo has lifted silverware – the South African has won twice on the Sunshine Tour in his homeland – and his comfort in Africa can help him to a positive week at Karen Country Club.

The kikuyu grass on this course will unsettle many overseas raiders, but Higgo has grown up on it and the talented left-hander can hit the ground running. He was fifth in the 2019 Karen Masters – a Sunshine Tour event at this week’s layout – when outside the world’s top 400. He has returned to the track a much better and more confident player, and his last two tournaments have provided a decent warm-up. A share of 11th place in the Kit Kat Group Pro-Am on the Sunshine Tour was followed by 19th spot in the Qatar Masters last week.

Kenya Open alternative prediction: Guido Migliozi at 18/1

An alternative to Higgo is the defending champion – Guido Migliozzi – who should arguably be favourite. Migliozzi closed with a 65 for second place in the Qatar Masters on Sunday, finding his A-game at the perfect time for his Kenya defence. There has been only one previous European Tour event at Karen CC – won by Migliozzi – and a repeat triumph seems entirely feasible.
