Golf tips: AT&T Byron Nelson predictions
Born in the south east of Ireland, Simon put his life-long love of football to good use when he started a successful independent blog in 2010. That opened up an alternative route to a career in journalism, and having had work published across a number of sites and publications, Simon joined the staff at Spotlight Sports Group in 2018.
The PGA Tour moves to previously uncharted terrain this week for the AT&T Byron Nelson at the TPC Craig Ranch in Texas, where the 156-strong field will compete for $8.6m in prize money in McKinney.

AT&T Byron Nelson winner prediction: Bryson DeChambeau at 8/1
Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm are contesting favouritism for the AT&T Byron Nelson, the final PGA Tour event before the US PGA Championship, and the American can be preferred over the Spaniard.
DeChambeau enjoyed an eight-under-par weekend in the Wells Fargo Championship last week, surging from the cut-line to ninth place, clearly getting his game in order for the Byron Nelson.
Rahm, in contrast, missed the Wells Fargo cut by two shots. DeChambeau also has a significant edge in terms of course knowledge – he lives in Dallas and has played numerous practice rounds at the TPC Craig Ranch track which is making its PGA Tour debut this week.
The layout is long and fairly open, allowing DeChambeau to employ his incredible power to great effect, and he will be confident of contending. His chipping and putting was excellent at Quail Hollow last week, so if he can get his main weapon – the driver – working well too, then the results could be spectacular at Craig Ranch.
Jordan Spieth has had Covid-19 since finishing third at the Masters, which explains why he has not competed in the wake of that Augusta title tilt, and the Texan may need time to rediscover his form.
AT&T Byron Nelson alternative prediction: Scottie Scheffler at 18/1
The main danger to DeChambeau, then, may end up being Scottie Scheffler, another Dallas-based star who has knowledge of Craig Ranch. Scheffler has never missed a cut in a PGA Tour event in his home state of Texas and he finished runner-up in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in the Lone Star State at the end of March.
