Golf tips: Betfred British Masters predictions

After three stunning weeks on the Canary Islands, the European Tour moves to north to England and The Belfry this week for the eagerly anticipated Betfred British Masters.

A 156-strong field will compete for glory in Sutton Coldfield over the next few days and below we’ve got free betting tips and predictions for the tournament.

Betfred British Masters betting tips and predictions

Robert MacIntyre heads the market for the Betfred British Masters at The Belfry and the popular Scottish left-hander seems certain to attract plenty of support, particularly from north of the border.

MacIntyre has become the great hope of Scottish golf – a potential successor to Colin Montgomerie – and 12th place in the Masters last month did nothing to quell the enthusiasm of his supporters.

It must be said, though, that the 24-year-old is yet to win a conventional 72-hole strokeplay event on any significant professional tour – and preference at slightly bigger prices is for Rasmus Hojgaard and Sam Horsfield.

Field: 156

British Masters winner prediction: Rasmus Hojgaard at 18/1

There has been only one European Tour event at The Belfry in the last 13 years – the one-off UK Championship last summer – and that was won by Hojgaard. He has two European Tour titles to his name at the age of 20 and looks set to develop into a superstar.

He has missed the cut by a shot in his two most recent starts, but they were PGA Tour gatherings at courses he had never seen before. Back in Europe at a layout he has already mastered, Hojgaard could prove the man to beat.

British Masters alternative prediction: Sam Horsfield at 20/1

The main threat to Hojgaard may come from Horsfield, a birdie machine who has greatly impressed since returning from a back injury at the end of March.

Eighth place in the Kenya Open was followed by third in the Savannah Classic, 15th in the Austrian Open and fourth in the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open.

His maiden European Tour title came at the Forest of Arden, which is 20 minutes down the road from The Belfry, and the Manchester-born powerhouse may be about to triumph in his homeland again. A missed cut by a shot in the high-class Valspar Championship last time out is easily forgiven.
