Charles Schwab Challenge betting tips and predictions
Jordan Spieth has been an understandably popular choice for the Charles Schwab Challenge this week and the favourite is looking to bolster a superb Colonial Country Club record.
Spieth won the tournament in 2016, has twice finished second, and was tenth last year in the deepest field the event has ever attracted. If Spieth has found a solution to the putting problems which blighted him throughout the US PGA Championship last week, he should contend for more home-state glory, having won the Texas Open last month.
Charles Schwab Challenge course guide and where to watch
Course: Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, Texas
Par: 70
Field: 120
Where to watch: Live on Sky Sports Golf red button from 1pm on Thursday
Time difference: Texas is six hours behind the UK and Ireland
Charles Schwab Challenge winner prediction: Patrick Reed at 22/1
Preference at the prices, though, is for another Texan – Patrick Reed can be supported at double the odds of Spieth. Reed is a short-game master who can revel around the tiny greens at Colonial.
He finished seventh in last year’s high-class Charles Schwab Challenge, missing out on the playoff by just two shots, and can get in the mix again after finding top gear over the weekend of the US PGA.
Reed outscored everybody over the final 36 holes of the US PGA, closing with rounds of 69 and 70 at the super-tough track, and he can claim a tenth PGA Tour title this week if he carries that form to Texas. Reed won the Farmers Insurance Open by five shots in January, and more recently he finished eighth in the Masters and sixth in the Wells Fargo Championship.
Charles Schwab Challenge alternative prediction: Justin Rose at 28/1
An alternative at a slightly bigger price is Justin Rose, who closed with a 67 in the US PGA for eighth place, carding eight Sunday birdies. That effort followed seventh spot at Augusta and Rose seems to be getting back to his best at the age of 40. The Englishman won at Colonial in 2018 and was third last year, so he has returned to a happy hunting ground swinging well.
