Home Heroes Long Haul: 34/1 Accumulator for this week

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

The final international break of 2024 is almost upon us but before that, we’ve got a packed week ahead. I’ve taken a look through the slate from Tuesday through to Sunday to pick out six home sides for our Home Heroes accumulator tip.

Tuesday – Lille vs Juventus

Lille have won their last two Champions League games, beating Real Madrid at home before claiming a 3-1 win in the Spanish capital against Atletico. Overall, the Ligue 1 side have won five of their last seven matches, with a late equaliser denying them maximum points against Lyon on Friday.

Despite that, Lille should be confident of another big Champions League result. Juventus started the season looking incredibly strong at the back, but recent outings have been a concern. The Old Lady conceded 5.8 Expected Goals across their last two European matches, posting just 1.4 in return.

With Lille on a roll, take them to claim a fourth Champions League home win in a row.

Wednesday – Blackburn Rovers vs Stoke

Defeats to Sheffield United and Watford have left Blackburn just outside the top six, but they can return to winning ways this week. Rovers have won each of their five home contests against sides below them in the table so far, while Stoke are struggling on their travels.

The Potters have lost four of their six away assignments this season and they’ve lost all three meetings with sides in the top six. With Blackburn hoping to kick on, they’re good value to take all three points.

Thursday – Olympiakos vs Rangers

Conference League holders Olympiakos can pick up another three points towards progression in the Europa League on Thursday. The Greek outfit have won three of their last four matches, while they beat Sporting Braga 3-0 in their first home game in Europe this term.

Rangers are already nine points shy of the top two in Scotland and they needed a turnaround to get past Motherwell in the League Cup at the weekend. The Gers have lost their last two Premiership away trips and they could struggle with the hostile environment in Piraeus.

Friday – Utrecht vs Heracles

Utrecht sit third in the Eredivisie having won eight of their first 10 games this season. With the club progressing in the cup, they’ve won eight of their previous nine matches in all competitions.

Utrecht lost out at home to Feyenoord in their last home game but they’ve won their other four matches at Stadion Galgenwaard so far. They should have little trouble dispatching 12th-placed Heracles, who have suffered 3-0, 4-1 and 5-0 defeats on their travels this season.

Saturday – Aberdeen vs Dundee

Aberdeen’s high-flying start came crashing down with a 6-0 loss to Celtic on Saturday, but they can regroup to see off a Dundee side that sits just a point above last place.

The visitors have lost to nil in three of their last four away matches and Aberdeen have won 13 consecutive home games stretching back to April. The Dons can bounce back against a side they beat on the road at the end of September.

Sunday – Fiorentina vs Verona

Verona won a back-and-forth clash with Roma 3-2 on Sunday, but they’ve still lost seven of their last 10 matches in Serie A. Results at home are keeping them clear of danger, having lost four away games on the spin.

Verona have conceded 12 goals across defeats at Lazio, Como, Atalanta and Lecce. Meanwhile, Fiorentina extended their winning streak to seven games with a 1-0 win at Torino. La Viola have won their last four home matches, including victories over Lazio, AC Milan and a 5-1 win against Roma.
