Hotshots Accumulator: 144/1 Midweek goalscorer sixfold

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

We’re on the eve of the new football season, with European qualifiers in midweek before a weekend of EFL action. Saturday features the Community Shield, the traditional curtain-raiser for the English season.

There’s also league action in Europe and the second weekend of Scottish Premiership action, so we’ve scanned the fixture list to produce a 144/1 goalscorers acca!

Tuesday – Karim Konate to score against Twente

Salzburg have made a high-scoring start to the new season, netting nine goals across their first two games. They enter Champions League qualifying on Tuesday night at home to Twente, aiming to improve on a poor showing in the competition’s group stage last year.

Twente should pose a threat, but they can be caught out defensively. Salzburg should put their faith in 20-year-old forward Karim Konate, who has made a flying start to the new campaign. He’s scored three times across their first two matches of the season, having finished last term with nine strikes in his final six league games.

Wednesday – Kasper Hogh to score against Jagiellonia

While Jagiellonia have home advantage in the first leg of this Champions League qualifier, they host a Bodo / Glimt side who are in full-flow domestically. The Norwegian side have raced clear at the top of the Eliteserien, playing an adventurous brand of football.

Kasper Hogh has six goals in this league this term after his brace at the weekend. He netted at Rigas in their last game in this competition, so back the forward to continue that good form in Poland.

Thursday – Simon Banza to score against Servette

Simon Banza scored 21 Primeira Liga goals last season and the forward needs to step up after the departure of winger Alvaro Djalo.

Banza proved himself in the Europa League earlier this year, netting home and away to Qarabag in the first knockout round after Braga dropped out of the Champions League. They’ll be targeting a better run in the competition and Banza can lead them to a victory over Swiss side Servette.

Friday – Victor Gyokeres to score against Rio Ave

The league campaign in Portugal begins on Friday night and champions Sporting have managed to hold on to key asset Victor Gyokeres. The Swede scored 29 times in 33 league games last term after signing from Coventry.

The forward can pick up where he left off after scoring seven times in his final five league games last term. Rio Ave head into this one after a poor preseason where they’ve looked far too open, so take the league’s standout striker to trouble them.

Saturday – Erling Haaland to score against Manchester United

Erling Haaland had a quiet end to last season but missing out on Euro 2024 seems to have spurred him on. He scored in both of Norway’s games in June and he’s struck in three of City’s four preseason games.

Any concerns about his injury status were put to rest with a hat-trick against Chelsea in their final warm-up game. Having scored six times across six meetings with United, back Haaland for a strong start.

Sunday – Matt O’Riley to score against Hibernian

Matt O’Riley didn’t find the net in Celtic’s opening win over Hibernian but the Dane did have three efforts on goal. The Bhoys head on the road for the first time this term and that should suit O’Riley, who scored more goals away from home than any other Celtic player last season.

With 11 of his 18 Premiership goals coming away from home, take O’Riley to get his first goal of the season at a Hibs side that were just blown away by St Mirren.
