RSM Classic winner prediction – Austin Eckroat at 30/1

The market for the RSM Classic revolves around Aberg, who capped a superb debut year by storming to a four-shot victory at Sea Island Golf Club last season.

Aberg is the clear standout in this field and history could easily repeat itself if he’s fit enough to do himself justice, but the 25-year-old Swede underwent knee surgery in September so he is likely to be rusty after a three-month break.

Staged at the golfing hotbed of St Simons Island, Georgia, the RSM takes place across two venues with the Seaside Course hosting three rounds while one round is played on the easier Plantation Course over the first two days.

Aberg’s ball-striking came to the fore last year but being long off the tee is not a prerequisite for success because the Sea Island roll of honour is littered with shorter, accurate operators who can control their ball flight in coastal conditions.

Austin Eckroat triumphed at the World Wide Technology Championship a fortnight ago and there’s no obvious reason why the 25-year-old Oklahoman will not threaten a quick-fire double.

Eckroat shot 66-63 over the weekend when winning by the coast in Mexico and many of his best results have come under similar conditions – he was 17th at the Heritage in April and an excellent eighth on Sea Island debut last year.

Australian PGA Championship winner prediction – Cameron Smith at 7/1

Royal Queensland will host the Australian PGA Championship for the fourth time since the start of 2022 and a strong home contingent will take plenty of stopping in this co-sanctioned DP World Tour-Australian Tour event.

Cameron Smith and Min Woo Lee, the last two winners of the tournament, are the top two in the betting while fellow Aussies Jason Day, Marc Leishman and Lucas Herbert round out the top five.

It often pays to swerve the obvious in golf betting but, as was the case with Rory McIlroy last week, the class act could prevail with Smith taken to win this title for a fourth time and for a second time at Royal Queensland.

A Brisbane native, Smith has warmed up nicely for this week with a third-placed finish in the Queensland PGA Championship and a runner-up finish in the New South Wales Open.

While winless as an individual on the LIV Tour this year, the 2022 Open champion has had three runner-up finishes on that circuit and played a pivotal role last month as Ripper won the Team Championship.
