While most of the festive football action is focused around the traditional Boxing Day schedule, there’s plenty to get excited about on the 27th as well and Manchester United’s trip to St James’ Park is the headline event.

Manchester United have been out of action since 11th December after last weekend’s postponement but with the vast majority of Covid-stricken players now back in training they will look to continue their fine vein of form under Ralf Rangnick, while Newcastle find themselves struggling in the bottom three after winning just one league game all season.

In anticipation of Monday’s only Premier League fixture, I’ve put together a gigantic 301/1 Bet Builder to rail while the action unfolds.

Man Utd to win

Manchester United look a rejuvenated side since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure and come into this unbeaten in the six games since the Norwegian left.

They have won four of these, including each of their last three in the Premier League, and have more than enough quality to get the three points here, especially against a Newcastle side reeling after three successive defeats in which they have conceded 11 goals.

Both teams to score

Newcastle may be relegation candidates but their front line tends to perform fairly well at St James’ Park and with Callum Wilson leading the line you can never rule out a Magpies goal. They have averaged 1.33 goals per game on home soil and they have only failed to score in two of their nine outings there.

Those failures came against Manchester City and Chelsea – the two best defences in the league – and the Red Devils have conceded four more goals than those two sides combined.

Cristiano Ronaldo to score anytime

Incredibly, many thought Ralf Rangnick’s arrival at Old Trafford would spell trouble for the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, with some believing Rangnick’s focus on youth, intensity and pressing would result in Ronaldo being less favoured.

Unsurprisingly, it seems you cannot leave one of the greatest goalscorers of all time on the bench and Ronaldo has continued to prove his worth. He has scored four goals in his four starts since Solskjaer departed to take his tally to 13 goals in 18 games this season.

Bruno Fernandes to assist anytime

Bruno Fernandes may have lost some of his goalscoring opportunities since his Portuguese compatriot arrived back at Old Trafford but the midfielder is no less important to the team. He has provided eight assists in 21 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League this season and he laid on 17 goals for the club last season.

He has also been involved in five goals in his three appearances against Newcastle, scoring three and assisting two as Manchester United romped their way to an 11-3 aggregate scoreline across that trio of games.

Over 4.5 cards

These two are among the most ill-disciplined sides in the Premier League, with only Leeds (52) picking up more cards than Newcastle (45) and Manchester United (39) this season.

They average 2.5 and 2.44 cards per game respectively and Man Utd’s average rises to 2.75 cards per game when they’re on the road.

Jamaal Lascelles & Scott McTominay to be carded

Jamaal Lascelles has picked up five of Newcastle’s 45 cards and three of those have come at St James’ Park. What’s more, four of them have been picked up in his last nine appearances in the Premier League.

Scott McTominay has also picked up five bookings in a Manchester United shirt this season, and his have been even more recently acquired. All five of his bookings have come in the last eight games and he has been carded in four of his last five league outings.

Newcastle over 3.5 corners

Newcastle have averaged 4.44 corners per game at St James’ Park this season and while that’s far from the best figure in the league they are coming up against a Manchester United side that have conceded more corners away from home than any side other than Burnley this term.

The Red Devils have allowed 60 corners in eight away games this season – an average of 7.5 per game – and their overall record of 6.19 corners per game conceded is hardly a reassuring number, either.
