Clashes between Liverpool and Manchester City have so often ended up decisive in the race for the Premier League title over the last half a decade but things look a little different heading into their first Premier League meeting of the 2022/23 season.

Manchester City are on a phenomenal streak and look a cut above the rest, despite being second in the table behind Arsenal, while seemingly ever-present challengers Liverpool have looked a shadow of their former selves and find themselves languishing in tenth position, some 14 points adrift of the top spot.

Of course, a win over the reigning champions could turn the tide at Merseyside, while another emphatic blowout from Pep Guardiola’s men could send them top of the table as we enter a hectic period in the top flight.

Manchester City to win

Liverpool may be delivering the goods in the Champions League but they are yet to hit their stride in domestic football. They have won just two of their eight Premier League games so far this term and have already conceded almost half the amount of goals they shipped in the entirety of last season.

Manchester City, by contrast, have hit an incredible 33 goals in nine league games this season and have won seven of their nine outings. Their last top-flight loss came back in February and they haven’t lost a league away game since last August. Guardiola’s side have scored ten goals in their last two league games and can take advantage of Liverpool’s shaky defence on Sunday.

Erling Haaland to score 2 or more goals

Specifically, Erling Braut Haaland can take advantage of Liverpool’s lacklustre back line. The Norwegian superstar has announced his arrival in the Premier League in style, scoring 20 goals in just 13 competitive appearances and looking unstoppable at times.

He has found the net in ten successive games for his club, scoring a ridiculous 18 goals across this period and netting three hat-tricks. He has scored more than once in six of his 13 outings and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Roberto Firmino to score anytime

Roberto Firmino looked like he could have been shunted to the side following the summer arrival of Darwin Nunez but the Brazilian forward has made a strong case for himself with his performances and an injury to Luis Diaz makes him even more likely to make the starting lineup.

He has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season and scored eight goals in the process. His latest came in the form of a brace at Rangers in midweek to make it five goals in his last four appearances, while he has only failed to score in two of the last seven games in which he has played 45 minutes or more.

Kevin De Bruyne to assist anytime

Lauded as one of the best midfielders in the world, Kevin De Bruyne is certainly living up to his reputation this season now he has the killer instinct of Haaland to get on the end of his exquisite balls. The Belgian maestro has provided 11 assists in 13 competitive outings this season and has assisted Haaland four times already.

Eight of these 11 assists have come in his last seven outings for Manchester City and he has only failed to provide the final ball in one of these matches, which was the goalless draw at Copenhagen in midweek where Haaland was rested.
