Huge 398/1 golf double for the Wells Fargo Championship & Italian Open

It’s a big week on both sides of the Atlantic with the PGA Tour stars out in force for the latest designated event, the Wells Fargo Championship, which returns to Quail Hollow Club, North Carolina, after a year at TPC Potomac.

The DP World Tour, meanwhile, heads to continental Europe for the first time this year as we get another early look at September’s Ryder Cup venue, Marco Simone Golf Club, Rome, which hosts the Italian Open for the fourth time.

Racing Post golf tipster Joe Champion has assessed both tournaments and put together an each-way double which pays 440/1 with bet365. Best must be placed by 6am on Thursday.

Wells Fargo Championship each-way prediction

Rory McIlroy has a magnificent Quail Hollow record and is the 7/1 Wells Fargo favourite but the Northern Irishman has endured a tough few weeks, missing the cut at the Masters and withdrawing from the Heritage. Take him on with his Ryder Cup colleague Viktor Hovland.

The Norwegian has been knocking on the door in huge events, finishing tenth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, third at the Players and seventh at the Masters, and he struck the ball well at the Heritage last time when a stone-cold putter held him back.

Hovland fell in love with Quail Hollow on his only previous start at the North Carolina course, finishing third behind McIlroy in 2021, and he should be right up there again with experience under his belt.

Italian Open each-way prediction

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre won the Italian Open in magnificent fashion last season, seeing off a host of big names including McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Marco Simone has hosted the last two editions of the Italian Open, but last year was MacIntyre’s course debut and he improved for each round, figuring out how to handle the Rome track as the tournament progressed.

The Oban man finished sixth and seventh in the two Far East events over the last two weeks and Marco Simone is clearly a good fit for a player with Ryder Cup ambitions.
