Borussia Dortmund surprised most last season by making it all the way to the final and while it may be a bigger shock if they repeated the feat, they look good value to open with a win.

BVB have made a good start to the campaign under new boss Nuri Sahin with seven points from their first three games and easy progress in the DFB Pokal. Although they are on the road, they enjoyed away success in Paris, Milan and Newcastle last term and Club Brugge are not of their calibre. Nicky Hayen’s men have already lost two of their opening seven league games and were held at home by Mechelen and Der BVB can stamp their class on Wednesday.

Crvena Zvezda pack enough punch up front to beat beleaguered Benfica in Belgrade on Thursday. Vladen Milojevic, the coach that led the Serbian champions to a famous group stage win over Liverpool six years ago, is back at the helm and ready to mastermind another famous night. Benfica sacked Roger Schmidt and installed the underwhelming Bruno Lage this month. The ex-Wolves boss inherits a squad lacking on-field leaders and their heads drop quickly when things go against them. Back a home win in Belgrade.

Bayer Leverkusen’s trip to Feyenoord on Thursday has the makings of an entertaining goal-laden affair and a victory for the visitors combined with a winner in the over 3.5 market looks promising. The hosts have seen a minimum of four goals scored in three of their five matches in all competitions this season while the same is true of four of Die Werkself’s five fixtures. The star quality of Xabi Alonso’s squad, three of whom have been nominated for the Ballon D’Or, should see the German side prevail against a Feyenoord side with just three wins from their last 12 Champions League matches.

Back RB Leipzig or draw at around even-money in the double-chance market when they travel to Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

Leipzig have taken seven points from their first three Bundesliga matches this term, including a smash-and-grab 3-2 victory against champions Bayer Leverkusen in their last away fixture.

A front three of Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons should cause problems for Atletico, who edged past Inter on penalties in last season’s round of 16 before losing 5-4 on aggregate to Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals.
