In The Mixer: Experts pick their Euro trebles with a 3,509/1 bet

In The Mixer is FST’s weekly column where we catch up with eight experts in football betting and get their opinions on the hot topic of the week.

This week, we’ve asked our team of experts for their winners trebles for the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

It is fair to say this question split the room, but using a voting system three teams stood out and I’ve put them together as a most popular treble that pays out at 194/1. I’ve also taken the biggest priced selections for each competition and that bet combines into a huge 3509/1 multiple.

Manchester City have been edging closer to a long-awaited Champions League trophy and with the Premier League effectively wrapped up I can’t help but feeling this will be their year after coming so close last season.

It’s impossible to ignore Europa League-specialists Sevilla. They have won the competition twice as many times as any other side and four of their six triumphs have come since 2014. Their ongoing La Liga title challenge is a slight concern but with the likes of Jules Kounde, Diego Carlos, Ivan Rakitic, Anthony Martial, Youssef En-Nesyri they have more than enough quality to take a seventh Europa League crown.

At 14/1, Feyenoord look a solid value pick in the inaugural Europa Conference League. They dropped just two points in the group stages and, with six points separating them from Ajax in the Eredivisie, they could shift their focus to Europe if their title challenge slips away.

With Man City running away with the title, I’m backing Liverpool to switch focus and lift Europe’s biggest prize. Klopp’s men lifted the Champions League in 2019 and the addition of Luis Diaz gives them even more quality up front. I can’t see a side across the continent who can match them – especially given City’s European record.

In the Europa League, I think Barcelona are going a little under the radar at 17/2. The Catalans have shaped up under Xavi and now the focus is on making the Champions League next term. This is another route into the competition and given how Spanish sides have dominated I’m backing one of Spain’s most decorated clubs to go all the way.

Finally, Roma look tough to beat in the Conference League. They aren’t looking great domestically, which has me thinking of 2016/17 United. Mourinho covered up league failings with Europa League success and doing that in the debut season of this tournament seems perfect for Mourinho and the Giallorossi.

English teams have produced four of the last six Champions League finalists so look likely to have a big say again but Bayern Munich should have the Bundesliga sewn up as the Champions League heats up and have the squad to make it two wins in three years.

Atalanta’s Serie A title hopes look over but they can still have a big say in the Europa League and have a fairly easy first tie against Olympiakos.

Rennes went unbeaten in Tottenham’s Europa Conference League Group and have been impressive in Ligue 1 this season, they are fancied to pick up the inaugural competition.

Jurgen Klopp has already gone the distance in the Champions League with Liverpool and can continue the trend of Premier League clubs excelling in the competition this season after they won all six of their group games.

In the Europa League, meanwhile, I fancy a Borussia Dortmund team blessed with attacking talents Erling Haaland, Marco Reus, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard and able to concentrate on European concentration after having been knocked out of the DFB Pokal and losing ground in the Bundesliga title race.

Marseille, who enhanced their attack with the January acquisition of Cedric Bakambu, complete the treble as my best pick to win the Conference League under the experienced Jorge Sampaoli.

Manchester City are a cut above any other team in Europe when on-song and can show their quality after last season’s near-miss against Chelsea. They have great squad depth and a big cushion in the Premier League is only going to help their cause in Europe.

The Europa League can go the way of Sevilla, who are specialists in Uefa’s supporting competition having won it in four of the last eight years. Each of the last ten winners have been from either Spain or England and Sevilla, who are second in La Liga, look the prime candidates.

There are some concerns surrounding Roma, particularly with Jose Mourinho regularly reaching boiling point, but they have so much quality in their squad that they have to be feared lining up in the Conference League. With the likes of Tammy Abraham, Sergio Oliveira and Nicolo Zaniolo in their ranks they have to go close.

Manchester City have been edging closer to a first Champions League crown and they are worthy favourites given their domestic form and a decent last-16 tie against Sporting. La Liga leaders Real Madrid look a big-priced alternative as they should trouble knockout opponents Paris St-Germain.

There are doubts over a few of the frontrunners in the Europa League market so take a chance on Real Betis, who are having a great season in La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

PSV Eindhoven had a tough Europa League group alongside Monaco and Real Sociedad but they could enjoy a good run in the Conference League, starting with a playoff tie against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

I wouldn’t put it past Man City to finally crack Europe but they are short enough having lost twice in their group, and am happy to take my chances on a bigger price. Liverpool enjoyed a perfect six from six and offer more value at 5/1 but PSG have been gambling on CL success and it could finally pay off at 8/1.

Seville can continue Spain’s great record in the Europa League with Sevilla a decent price of 7/1, although I wouldn’t rule out their free-scoring but erratic city rivals, Real Betis, at a massive 25/1.

The Europa Conference League looks a trickier puzzle but the fact that they do score goals, when they get it right, has got me siding with AS Roma at a decent enough 11/2.

Premier League pair Manchester City and Liverpool are both likely to go far in the competition, while Chelsea were given a great last-16 tie when drawn against Lille. However, I’m backing Bayern Munich to go all the way. They have a very agreeable last-16 game against RB Salzburg and have the European knowhow and plenty of world class talent to successfully navigate the later rounds.

Borussia Dortmund are the understandable favourites in the Europa League and in Erling Haaland they have the firepower to trouble any team in the world. Add in the quality of Jude Bellingham, Thorgan Hazard and Marco Reus and Dortmund will take some stopping.

The Europa Conference League offers PSV Eindhoven, who are available at around 10/1, a good chance of winning a European trophy after they dropped into the third-tier competition when finishing third in their Europa League group. PSV are having a good season, they sit second in the Eredivisie and have a very winnable last-16 tie against Maccabi Tel-Aviv to come.
