Liverpool’s Carabao Cup success at the end of February, along with their continued success in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, has revived the almost-perennial talks of a potential quadruple.

This week we ask our experts how many trophies this relentless Liverpool side can win.

Two could be the limit for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds

I backed Liverpool for the Champions League at the start of the season and nothing we’ve seen so far has changed my mind. Their quarter-final clash against Benfica looks like a soft touch for the Reds, who look perfectly built for success in Europe.

However, Liverpool look to be in a straight shoot-out for the Premier League with Man City and it’s hard to see the Citizens finishing up trophyless after how well they’ve played this season. You also can’t count Chelsea out in the FA Cup, so there’s no clear path to a quadruple for Liverpool. I can see the Reds finishing the campaign with one more trophy, with the Champions League my pick.

There’s a sense of ‘so near yet so far’ about Liverpool’s situation. They have been in sizzling form, both domestically and in Europe, but there are still plenty of formidable hurdles to clear.

I expect Manchester City to pip them to the league title as their home game against Liverpool is their only remaining fixture against a top-six side. The Reds have had a dismal FA Cup record under Jurgen Klopp so beating City and, the betting suggests, Chelsea is another tough task.

The Champions League, perversely, could be their best chance of a second trophy. They should breeze past Benfica in the last eight and are a more consistent unit than likely semi-final opponents Bayern Munich so you wouldn’t rule out a seventh European crown.

Two. Liverpool have been almost faultless since the turn of the year but the FA Cup draw hasn’t been kind. I can see them falling at that hurdle and struggling against Bayern Munich in a potential Champions League semi-final.

However, City have given them a chance at the Premier League title, one which I think they could take.

A point or better from the Etihad will keep them right in the fight and Pep Guardiola’s side have shown more signs of weakness over the last month or so than the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have done incredibly well to keep pace with big spenders City throughout the German’s reign and may pick up the rewards this year.

I’ll go for two and I wouldn’t be surprised if their second was the Champions League.

Like in the FA Cup and Premier League, they could yet face Manchester City in the Champions League this season but they could not have asked for a better quarter-final draw. Benfica edged past Ajax and have been underwhelming in the Primeira Liga this season whilst Bayern Munich are not as strong as the market suggests.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, were far from perfect in their last-16 draw with PSG and only progressed courtesy of a Karim Benzema masterclass.

It’s the one tournament Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have won which Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City haven’t and I’d fancy the Reds to go the distance.

They have one in the bag after their League Cup success, but I think that may be it. Unfortunately, the Reds have drawn Man City in the FA Cup semi-finals and Jurgen Klopp’s men may have to settle for second place behind the Citizens in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s best chance of adding to their League Cup trophy may come in the Champions League, but I’d fancy that they would have to beat Bayern Munich and familiar foes Man City to lift that trophy. The Reds are a fantastic side and they would probably be on for a treble at least if it wasn’t for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Potential treble not out of the question

With the Carabao Cup already in the bag I wouldn’t be surprised to see them land a treble this season.

The most likely addition for me is the Premier League, despite the one-point deficit on leaders Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are dropping points fairly regularly by their high standards and still have a home match against Liverpool to play, while Jurgen Klopp’s outfit have won nine successive league games and have looked unstoppable at times.

Liverpool’s quarter-final draw against Benfica also boosts their Champions League aspirations and, after winning all but one of their games in the competition this season, they should be considered among the favourites.

A quadruple would be a monumental and historical triumph but it’s getting into the realms of fantasy to suggest Jurgen Klopp’s side can add the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League to the EFL Cup they have already won this season.

However, a treble could well be on the cards. Manchester City may well get the better of them in the FA Cup semi next month but the Champions League quarter-final draw was very kind, pitting the Reds against Benfica. A likely Euro semi-final against Bayern Munich would be tough but it’s the sort of tie Liverpool will rise to the occasion in and, from there, anything is possible.

In the Premier League, Liverpool have chopped down City’s lead to just a point and have the momentum and belief that they can now edge out Pep Guardiola’s side in the final run-in, especially if they get a positive result at the Etihad in their huge league clash in April.
