In the Mixer: Which Premier League club had the best transfer window?

In The Mixer is FST’s weekly column where we catch up with our team of football betting experts and get their opinion on the hot topic of the week.
The Premier League transfer window slammed shut last week and the biggest-spending clubs in the world can now close their cheque book for a few months.
With a record-breaking spend of £2.36bn this summer, there are plenty of new arrivals to consider and our hot-topic of the week is which club had the best transfer window.
Chris Rivers
Brighton can seemingly do no wrong in the transfer market and their summer dealings were once again impressive. To bank an estimated £86 million profit and have added the likes of Joao Pedro, Mahmoud Dahoud and Ansu Fati represents some excellent wheeling and dealing.
Fati and Dahoud are gambles given their injury records but are top quality players when fit and the Seagulls recent record suggests the moves will work out. James Milner adds experience for the upcoming European campaign, while Carlos Baleba has the potential to be Chelsea’s next big-money signing from Brighton in the years to come.
Aaron Ashley
You can’t help but be impressed by the start to the season Tottenham have made and a great deal of that is down to the influence of James Maddison, who has settled in effortlessly since arriving from Tottenham.
Losing Harry Kane was hard to take and there is no doubting that they could have done with acquiring the services of a striker, but recruiting Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Micky van de Ven and making the deals of Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski permanent means they have had an excellent window.
With no European football to contend with, a top-four finish could be well within their reach.
Henry Hardwicke
It certainly isn’t Chelsea, what a shambles it has been at Stamford Bridge. Brighton can be happy to have signed two top-level performers in Ansu Fati and Carlos Baleba and they can be even happier to have received £115m from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo.
I also like what Nottingham Forest have been up to. Ibrahim Sangare, Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Murillo look excellent additions and Forest somehow managed to convince Spurs to pay £45m for Brennan Johnson.
Aaron Rogan
West Ham dragged their heals after losing Declan Rice early in the window and they ended up getting rid of last summer’s big addition in Gianluca Scamacca too. Heading into August without a signing, the noises coming out of the club suggested serious disagreements at the top over the profile of player to target.
However, the Hammers rallied and they arguably have had one of the most impressive windows of any top-flight side. Ajax pair Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus are fantastic talents, while James Ward-Prowse has already had a massive impact.
The Hammers also managed to hold on to Lucas Paqueta which is a huge boost. The expected addition of Jesse Lingard boosts their options in the final third, while Konstantinos Mavropanos adds needed defensive depth. They probably should have added another striker, but few sides deal with selling their star man as well as West Ham have done.

It’s hard not to see Brighton as the ultimate winners of the transfer window, considering they received a British record transfer fee for Moises Caicedo and put that money to good use, with some impressive signings coming in.
Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen looks an extremely shrewd signing at just 22 years old and fellow youngster Joao Pedro is already starting to produce.
The experience of James Milner adds balance but the real eye-catcher is the loan signing of Ansu Fati, who could add an X-Factor to take this Brighton side to the next level.
The Seagulls look set to have an impressive league and European campaign this season and their transfer model continues to work wonders.
Jack Ogalbe
As a fan, I’m almost nervous to praise West Ham’s business but the early signs are that their recruitment has been outstanding.
The board took time to get going as they waited for the Declan Rice money to roll in but have spent well, with Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse – a bargain at a reported £30m – and Mohammed Kudus all adding quality.
The other additions have also reinforced the squad and while they may regret not signing either another goalkeeper or striker, David Moyes has plenty to work with as he plots further success at home and abroad in 2023-24.
