Sports Journalist at FST, Gareth qualified as a journalist after graduating from university and spent over a decade as a freelance broadcast journalist, commentator and tipster before joining FST. Now living in Manchester, he is a long suffering Bolton Wanderers fan who also enjoys boxing, the NBA, tennis and rugby league.

Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley meet in a hastily rearranged rematch in Miami in the early hours of Sunday morning, while on Saturday night in Manchester Derek Chisora and former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker face off.

Paul was supposed to be taking on Tommy Fury but the younger brother of heavyweight king Tyson withdrew through injury. Woodley lost out to the 24-year-old YouTuber via a split decision back in August and stepped in to replace Fury with just 12 days notice before the fight itself.

The fight is due to take place in the US at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, and is expected to start at around 4am for viewers in the UK.

Paul’s fight with Fury was due to be shown on BT Sport Box Office but Fite TV have since taken over after the British boxer pulled out.

The fight costs $23.99, which works out at just under £18.

Best Bet: Tyron Woodley to win

These bouts between social media stars, celebrities and other non-traditional boxers are hard to call but in this case we do have the first fight to go on.

Paul has won all four of his fights so far, three by KO, but the first of those wins came against another YouTuber, his second outing was against former NBA player Nate Robinson but he then stepped up to fighting people with previous combat sports experience – admittedly in MMA rather than the sweet science itself.

‘The Problem Child’ stopped Ben Askew in his third fight then overcame Woodley via split decision. Paul is the favourite to win the rematch at 2 /5 but at 39/20 Woodley looks worth the risk to me.

The 39-year-old had 27 fights in UFC and has also experienced a rematch before. Woodley beat Stephen Thompson at UFC 209 after their first meeting ended in a draw, which suggests he has the knowhow to learn from his defeats.

The first fight was a fairly even contest. Paul had the better jab and worked behind that for large periods over the eight rounds but Woodley threw more power punches and nearly managed a stoppage in the fourth round, whereas Paul never really had the former UFC star in any trouble. This fight is likely to be close again, so at around 2/1 a small wager on underdog Woodley could be the way to go in this clash.

Saturday’s 14/1 boxing double

I’m going to pair a win for Woodley with a KO, TKO or Disqualification win for Chisora in his rematch with Parker.

Chisora goes into the contest on the back of two losses but his unanimous decision defeat to Oleksandr Usyk doesn’t look as damaging now the Ukrainian has dethroned Anthony Joshua as the WBA champion, and the other loss came in his next fight at the hands of Parker.

Chisora enjoyed some success early in the first meeting with the New Zealander and sent him to the canvas inside the opening seven seconds of the first round. The 37-year-old then put Parker under pressure early on but he allowed the former WBO champion back into the fight and Parker effectively managed the contest with his jab and a defensive, counter-punching style.

This is pretty much a last throw of the dice for ‘Del Boy’ and a defeat here would probably see him call time on his career. There can’t be any denying Chisora’s heart, and I suspect he will adopt a similar aggressive approach early on but this time he may hold something back and pick his moments a little better. Parker is a tough fighter and experienced pro who has never been stopped previously so, admittedly, this call is a big risk. However, if Chisora gets off to a good start and manages to find a way through he won’t let that chance slip away again. As such the Briton has a real chance of avenging his defeat with a stoppage, which at 4/1 looks a big price to me.
