Bruno Fernandes saga finally comes to an end
It’s taken a while hasn’t it? Bruno Fernandes sat next to a delighted looking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yesterday as the Portuguese international put pen to paper on a five and a half year deal at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old has signed from Sporting Lisbon for an initial £47 million, with performance related add-ons making the deal worth a potential £67.7 million. For fans of the Red Devils, that’s a small price to pay to inject some creativity into their midfield.
Odion Ighalo – Manchester United
This deal didn’t seem at all realistic, but Man United have signed former Watford striker Odion Ighalo. The striker will cost the Red Devils around £4million in wages and loan fees, while he offers cover in attack until the end of the season.
Jarrod Bowen – West Ham
After a month of speculation, Jarrod Bowen is moving on from Hull. The winger has been brilliant for the Tigers in the Championship, earning a £25million switch to West Ham. This is seen as a major show of support for David Moyes, who is now tasked with guiding the Hammers to safety after a busy window.
Emre Can – Borussia Dortmund
One of the biggest deals of the day has just been confirmed, coming an hour after the German transfer window closed. Juventus midfielder Emre Can has moved to Dortmund on loan, with an expected future fee of £25million, amid interest from Everton and Manchester United.
The German midfielder returns home following a mixed spell in Turin, while Dortmund have wrapped up an impressive January window.
Sander Berge – Sheffield United
After a protracted period of negotiation, Premier League surprise package Sheffield United have completed the signing of Genk midfielder Sander Berge for a club record £22 million. The 21-year-old is highly rated among the young midfielders of Europe, and his 6’4″ frame should fit in well with the Premier League.
Cedric Soares – Arsenal
Arsenal have further reinforced their defensive line with the capture of Southampton right back Cedric Soares. The Portuguese full-back’s contract was set to expire in the summer, so the Saints decided to cash in 28-year-old.
Sheffield United’s FM Hero
Sheffield United have made a late boost to their forward line, adding Richairo Zivkovic on loan from Chinese side Changchun Yatai. The Dutchman’s career hasn’t taken him to the heights he reached in Football Manager a few years ago, but he looks like a useful addition for the Blades.
Tariq Lamptey – Brighton
Chelsea may have been promoting their young players this season, but one has already departed. Tariq Lamptey featured in the Blues’ win at Arsenal in December, but he’s made the permanent switch to Brighton. He agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the AmEx.
DEADLINE DAY RUMOURS
9pm update
Ighalo Deal Close
With deals wrapping up and rumours winding down the focus for deadline day is narrowing down. Manchester United’s chase of Odion Ighalo is the main story for the last couple of hours. This one looks like it will cross the line before the 11pm deadline. Ighalo has reportedly agreed terms, with United and Shanghai Shenhua agreeing on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Ighalo may have been written off after switching to China, but his Premier League record was quite impressive. That includes putting Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to the sword, which should endear him to United fans.
Moyes Getting his Man
The deal for Jarrod Bowen is nearing completion, with reports around West Ham pointing to an announcement coming. However, the Guardian reported earlier that a relegation release clause requested by Bowen’s camp was causing problems. That was an attempted compromise after the 17th placed Hammers requested a relegation pay cut for their new signing.
Baston On Course
Aston Villa’s late bid to sign Borja Baston is moving in the right direction. Everything is agreed between the two clubs and the player, with just the medical left to clear before Baston is confirmed as an Aston Villa player. Baston made a great start to the season with Swansea, but he hasn’t added to his six league goals since September.
Wanyama Away?
One Premier League departure which could still happen in Victor Wanyama leaving Tottenham. The midfielder has reportedly agreed terms with Amiens, with the club now facing a race against time to get the deal over the line.
No Willian for Jose
Spurs chances of adding Willian Jose have been officially ruled out by his club Real Sociedad. Reports also suggest that the club rejected an approach from Barcelona earlier today for the striker.
7pm update
Odi-on the Move?
Former Watford man Odion Ighalo is emerging as the big potential winner from the postponement of the Chinese Super League season. He’s now being linked with Manchester United, as a loan for the former Watford frontman seems like the only remaining option to solve Man United’s forward troubles.
However, Sky Sports are reporting that Tottenham made a late bid to bring the striker in. That move was rejected by Shanghai Shenhua, but a potential switch to Old Trafford is still on.
Hammers Big Move
West Ham’s deal for Jarrod Bowen is on the verge of being confirmed. The Hull forward has been linked with sides across the Premier League all month, but he’s closing in on a big move. The Hammers have agreed a £25million deal with Hull, while they have now finished their medical and are finalising the switch.
Milan Dream Dashed
Antonee Robinson has had his shock switch to AC Milan dashed at the last minute. Complications with getting the medical done in time left the deal impossible before the Italian deadline, which passed at 7pm. The defender now has to return to Wigan ahead of a Championship relegation battle.
Villa Looking Forward
Fresh from booking their place in the EFL Cup final, Aston Villa are interested in adding to their forward line. Swansea striker Borja Baston has had a resurgence this season, but with just six months left on his contract at the Liberty the Swans are allowing the striker to depart this month.
5pm update
United’s Striker Search
Manchester United haven’t developed any new attacking targets in the last few hours. The Red Devils are still considering a swoop for Josh King, but as time ticks down Bournemouth would still need a replacement.
City Shift Angelino
Manchester City bought Angelino back to the club in the summer, but he’s set for a quick exit. The left-back is surplus to requirements for Pep Guardiola, with RB Leipzig closing in on a loan move for the full-back.
Maya Marching off
Southampton are set to lose another defender today, with Maya Yoshida on the way out. The Saints’ centre-half is departing on loan to Sampdoria, where he’ll link up with Claudio Ranieri.
Robinson’s Italian Job
There’s a race against time in Antonee Robinson’s potential move from Wigan to AC Milan. The defender’s deal at San Siro has hit some complications, which Milan have reacted to by recalling defender Diego Laxalt from Torino.
Atsu Interest
Newcastle winger Christian Atsu is an in demand man today. Blackburn had an approach rejected earlier on deadline day. However, Rovers are still monitoring the situation, with Nottingham Forest and Celtic also interested.
Bowen Edging Closer?
The departure of Peterborough’s Marcus Maddison could be great news for West Ham fans. The 26-year-old is edging towards a move to Hull, where he would replace Jarrod Bowen. The Hammers are nearing a deal for Bowen, with the club and player thrashing out personal terms.
3pm update
Strikers Staying Put
Big Premier League clubs chasing a striker has been a theme of this window. However, some of the key targets aren’t going to be moving.
Tottenham target Willian Jose won’t be leaving Real Sociedad, while Chelsea’s chase of Dries Mertens is off. That stopped Olivier Giroud leaving this month, while Edinson Cavani is staying at PSG.
King for a Day
Manchester United made a stunning late swoop for Bournemouth’s Josh King, with the forward suddenly appearing as a target. The Red Devils made a bid, but Bournemouth were put off by a lack of late replacements.
The move is now off, according to Sky Sports. Reports in Bournemouth suggest that United have cooled their interest in the striker. However, United remain on the lookout for cover in attack before the deadline.
Hammers to Nab Bowen?
Hull’s Jarrod Bowen was linked with a move to Crystal Palace, but London rivals West Ham have nipped in. They have a £20million deal lined up with the Tigers, but talks have reached a stumbling block over wages.
Ferguson Move on Last Leg
Crystal Palace could miss out on another Championship talent, with Nathan Ferguson’s move in the balance. The young full-back is set for a £10million move from West Brom, but the Eagles are investigating a knee issue raised in the medical.
Milan via Wigan
Defender Antonee Robinson is set to ditch the Championship’s relegation battle for AC Milan’s European push. The 22-year-old defender is set to follow Zlatan Ibrahimovic through the door at San Siro in one of the day’s biggest shocks.
12pm update
Celtic have made a move to resign Victor Wanyama from Tottenham, although Spurs are holding out for an £8 million fee for the 28-year-old midfielder.
Emre Can has arrived in Dortmund for a medical ahead of his transfer from Juventus to Borussia Dortmund.
Wolves expect no further action, with Nuno Espirito Santo telling Sky Sports reporters that they are not seeking a replacement for the departing Ryan Bennett.
Movement expected at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea are desperately clawing around as they try to complete business this deadline day, with a number of deals for attacking players on the verge of collapsing.
The Blues are still hoping to sign Dries Mertens from Napoli for a bargain price, but the Italian club are looking unwilling to sell the Belgian forward due to not being able to find a replacement. With that in mind, Frank Lampard could turn back to Edinson Cavani after the PSG striker’s move to Atletico Madrid fell through at the last minute. However, reports suggest that Cavani will stay in Paris for the remainder of the season.
Giroud on his way out
Despite Chelsea’s apparent desperation to sign a new striker, it’s looking increasingly likely that they could actually let one leave this month. Olivier Giroud is still a target for Tottenham and could across the capital before the end of the day, but a late twist could be on the cards after Lazio joined the race to sign the French striker.
Man Utd’s set to come up empty handed in striker search
The capture of Bruno Fernandes has brought some much-needed optimism to Old Trafford, but their striker woes look set to continue. Manchester United’s attempt to sign Josh King from Bournemouth have failed, and while Real Sociedad have offered Willian Jose on loan and Salomon Rondon is potentially available, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that no more business is likely this month.
Aubameyang to Barcelona still on the cards
Arsenal’s star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has told club officials that he wants to leave the Emirates and head to Barcelona this month, with the Catalan giants desperately searching for a replacement for the injured Luis Suarez.
The Gunners have told Barca that Aubameyang is not available for any less than £50 million, but that could be a price worth paying for the Spaniards.
Gareth Bale on the move? Maybe not
This story is reported every single transfer window, almost like clockwork. “Gareth Bale set to return to Tottenham” the headlines will read, but inevitably these rumours never turn into anything more substantial.
This January is no different, with Zinedine Zidane quashing claims that the Welsh forward is on his way out of the Bernebau. Maybe one day it’ll finally happen?
Saints issue hands off warning to Spurs
After losing right back Cedric Soares to Arsenal, Southampton have put their foot down with the Gunners’ North London rivals. They have told Tottenham in no uncertain terms that club captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is not for sale this month.
Jarrod Bowen attracting Premier League interest
Hull winger Jarrod Bowen has had a fantastic season, netting 16 goals and providing seven assists in the Championship despite Hull’s mediocre mid-table standing. Unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old is attracting the attention of some bigger clubs, with West Ham making a late move to sign the winger as they look to hijack Crystal Palace’s approach for the player.
Reports suggest that Bowen is on his way to London for a medical with West Ham, with a £20 million fee agreed between the two clubs.
Midlands move for Ryan Bennett
Recent reports claim that Wolves defender Ryan Bennett is currently travelling to Leicester to undergo a medical after the two clubs agreed a fee this morning. The 29-year-old centre back is expected to join the Foxes on loan for the remainder of the season.
