We’ve been busy picking out our outright predictions for the new season and today our focus turns to Spain. Real Madrid have made a couple of high-profile signings, but their big rivals have been busy too.

Liam Flin has picked out his three best bets for the coming season, with 8/11, 15/8 and 16/1 selections.

La Liga outright predictions

Real Madrid reigned supreme in La Liga last season, racking up 95 points to finish above Barcelona and surprise package Girona, and Los Blancos are looking to win back-to-back titles for the first time since the 2007/08 season.

They have not hung around in the transfer window, drafting in world-class striker Kylian Mbappe to add to an attack which already features Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham.

Wonderkid Endrick adds another option going forward, while midfield engines Eduoardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni are another year wiser and should compensate for the loss of the retired Toni Kroos.

All in all, Real Madrid are in a very good place under Carlo Ancelotti and they should pip Barcelona to the post in the title race.

Barca have a great base to build on with youngsters Lamine Yamal and Pedri, who impressed at Euro 2024 for Spain, likely to run the show but it could take time for new boss Hansi Flick to adjust to life in La Liga.

Winner without Real & Barca – Atletico Madrid at 8/11

The best betting strategy is in the betting without the El Clasico clubs and Atletico Madrid are the wager.

Atleti finished nine points behind Barcelona and five behind Girona last term but the latter are unlikely to replicate last season given their exodus of players and the burden of Champions League football.

It was by no means a disastrous campaign for Atletico, who still racked up 76 points in the top flight and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The return of a handful of players loaned out last term should help bulk out the squad and Atletico Madrid are one of the more settled Spanish clubs under Diego Simeone.

Former Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand, meanwhile, is a smart addition at the back and an improvement defensively should lead them into third at least.

Top scorer – Alexander Sorloth

Atletico have also boosted their frontline with Alexander Sortloth and the impending arrival of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.

Sorloth struck 23 goals in 34 La Liga matches last term – just one less than top scorer Artem Dovbyk – and the new Atleti forward is a good each-way play at around 16-1 in a top scorer market dominated by Mbappe.

He should get even more attacking opportunities at Atletico and has already shown he knows this league well.

Top four finish – Athletic Bilbao at 15/8

Away from Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao could represent a decent bet to finish in the top four.

The competition for places is as fierce as ever and the fact Girona are expected to perform worse than last season suggests a new spot could open up in the top four.

And rather than back teams who have overhauled their squad, punters are better placed going with the Basque club.

Athletic Bilbao finished eight points off the Champions League places last term but it was a high-scoring season and they should close that gap.

Ernesto Valverde is an experienced manager and it looks as though they will retain the services of star winger Nico Williams, despite reported interest from Barcelona.

Braga’s Alvaro Djalo has arrived to reinforce their attack and they look ready to push on and make the Champions League places.
