League One Betting Tips: 9/1 double ahead of the play-offs
An excellent League One season came to an end last weekend, though the hard work continues for four teams. One Championship spot remains open, so Charlton, Doncaster, Portsmouth and Sunderland will battle it out for the right to ply their trade in the second tier of English football next season.
Ahead of play-offs, we’ve highlighted two goal-scorers who represent value in the ‘Anytime’ market.
Jamal Lowe – Sunderland vs Portsmouth
Having bagged 15 league goals, Jamal Lowe has enjoyed a solid campaign on the south coast. The former P.E. teacher took a while to get going in Pompey colours last season, though the Fratton Park faithful have certainly seen what the 24-year-old can do this time around.
After scoring three goals in three games at the start of the season, Lowe may have been expected to reach a greater total, though 15 is still a very respectable return. What’s more, Lowe found the net against Sunderland, who Portsmouth face on Saturday, in both the league and the EFL Trophy final. If we add in the fact that Lowe finished the regular season as League One’s third best attacking midfielder/winger in terms of individual expected goals for, then it’s easy to feel that backing the former Hampton & Richmond player to find the net at Stadium of Light represents a touch of value, especially since he’s a bigger price than both Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke, who both rank below the Pompey goal-getter in terms of goals and expected goals for this season.

Lyle Taylor – Doncaster vs Charlton
Another standout candidate ahead of a big weekend of play-off football is Charlton’s Lyle Taylor, who has made light work of getting the ball in the net this term. Taylor notched 21 times in the league for the Addicks this season, while he also finished the regular campaign in fine form, scoring five goals in the final four matches.
Not only has the Charlton hitman found it easy to score goals this season, but the 29-year-old has also made a habit of scoring goals in big games against the better sides. Taylor notched a double in Charlton’s recent 3-1 win over champions Luton, while he also scored against Portsmouth, Sunderland, Coventry and Burton, all of whom finished in the top nine.
Match Preview: Doncaster vs Charlton
Given that Taylor finished the regular campaign as the leagues’ third highest scorer and given that the frontman also ranks as League One’s third best individual in terms of expected goals for, it looks as though he might just have a great chance of scoring on Sunday than the current prices suggest.
