After kicking off FST’s outright predictions season with the Scottish Premiership last week, we’re back with our first EFL tips of the season as we focus on League Two.

Wrexham and Notts County, who tore up the National League last season, offer a lot of interest while MK Dons, Morecambe, Accrington Stanley and Forest Green Rovers will all be hoping to bounce straight back to the third tier.

League Two outright predictions & tips

Doncaster Rovers to win League Two (eachway) at 25/1

MK Dons to finish in the top seven at 5/4

Grant McCann and Graham Alexander know how to engineer promotion-winning campaigns and they can demonstrate that skillset by getting Doncaster and MK Dons into the mix at the top end of League Two.

Hollywood side Wrexham might be making the title market in the basement with other recent National League success stories Stockport and Notts County also fancied.

But the fourth tier is packed with clubs with serious pedigree and lofty ambitions, among them McCann’s Doncaster and Alexander’s MK Dons – and both should get a run for promotion at big prices.

McCann has returned to Donny at the same time as owner Terry Bramall has provided a significant financial injection, and the South Yorkshire club can now challenge once again.

Veteran defender Richard Wood has moved down the road from Championship club Rotherham, striker Joe Ironside has a proper goalscoring pedigree while Jamaica international Tyler Roberts represents an eye-catching loan arrival from Wolves.

Rovers had a poor season last time around but can now make the right strides while the Dons’ return to League Two ought to be the briefest of affairs.

League One playoff semi-finalists just over a year ago, the Dons’ demise last season was as spectacular as it was surprising.

They actually finished the season pretty well with only two losses in 11 and stability and experience will be provided by Alexander in the dugout.

Alexander is looking to bolster the Dons’ defence judged by the signings of Newport centre-back Cameron Norman and ex-Pompey player of the year, goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray. One or two additions in attack should see them be a force at this level.

Wrexham are clearly going to be a box-office proposition and if they hit the ground running quicker than Stockport – who preceded them as National League champs but were slow starters in 2022-23 – then the Dragons have to be challengers.

At around 7-2, though, they don’t make a lot of appeal in a division where gnarled old hands like Mansfield, Bradford, Tranmere and improvers Gillingham won’t be easily shoved around.

MK Dons came down with 45 points and were competitive. Forest Green, in contrast, were relegated with 27 points and just one win in 2023.

Forest Green Rovers to be relegated at 8/1

Harrogate and Crawley, strugglers last time round, are vying for relegation favouritism and that’s understandable. But Forest Green could easily find themselves nosediving straight towards the bottom two under the stewardship of Hannah Dingley.

How long Dingley lasts depends solely on how well she does but the signs aren’t promising with an awful lot of holes to patch up before Rovers can start to feel bullish.

They certainly look better value to go down at 12/1 than either Colchester or Barrow at around half the odds.
