With the major European leagues drawing to a close and post-season international break almost at an end, football fans are turning their attentions to the summer leagues and FST is no exception.

Our experts have been following the MLS all season but our coverage will ramp up over the summer.

The MLS, with selected fixtures broadcast live on TV, is one of the most popular leagues running during the European off-season and just in case you haven’t been following I’ve put together this handy recap to bring you up to speed.

What will FST be covering?

FST’s MLS experts have been called into action this summer to provide a Match Prediction for every single MLS fixture.

Not only that, but we’ll have regular overnight accumulators featuring MLS games, including MLS Mega Accumulators on Saturday nights!

You can find all things MLS on our MLS Predictions page!

Where can you watch the MLS?

FreeSports and Premier Sports are the go-to TV channels to catch MLS action with most of the games broadcast live.

However, you can also stream all the MLS action live on bet365, providing you have a funded account or have placed a bet in the past 24 hours.

Who are the defending champions?

New England Revolution won the MLS Supporters’ Shield – the trophy handed out for the overall MLS table leader in the regular season – for the first time, breaking the record for most points in a season (73) in the process.

However, The Revs couldn’t find a way to lift their sixth MLS Cup as they were knocked out by eventual winners New York City in the quarter-finals.

Ronny Deila’s side beat Atlanta United, New England Revolution and Philadelphia Union on their way to the final in Portland, beating Portland Timbers on penalties in their own back yard to lift their first ever MLS Cup.

What’s happened so far?

Los Angeles FC lead the way in the overall table with 29 points, although they are only three points ahead of defending MLS Cup champions New York City and the second-place side have a game in hand.

LAFC started the campaign in blistering form but have dropped off lately, while New York City lost three of their first five games but are currently the team to beat, winning seven of their last eight MLS outings.

What about the Supporters’ Shield defenders, I hear you ask?

Well, Philadelphia Union began the season by dropping just two points in their first six games but have since become the MLS’s draw specialists, playing out six stalemates and losing twice in their last nine matches.

If you’re more interested in just being entertained, however, let me point you in the direction of CF Montreal. The Canadian side are the joint-second highest scorers in the MLS with 28 goals, but also have the joint-second worst defence with 26 conceded. That’s 54 goals scored in their 14 matches.

Who are the players to watch?

The MLS is studded with familiar names from the past and the most impressive over the last couple of years has to be  New England Revolution’s Carles Gil.

The former Valencia and Aston Villa attacking midfielder was voted MVP last season with a league-leading 18 assists and he is joint-top of the assist leaderboard this year, too.

Another couple of former Premier League players ply their trade in Los Angeles, with Javier Hernandez and Carlos Vela turning out for LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC respectively.

Atlanta United have two of the most valuable players in the league in Thiago Almada and Josef Martinez, although both are having a tough time of it lately.

Other notable names include Douglas Costa (LA Galaxy) and Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire), while 18-year-old Cade Cowell is dubbed as a star of the future for San Jose Earthquakes.
