Arsenal vs Tottenham bet builder guide

Match result

While both these sides have been impressive in the Europa League of late, their Premier League campaigns have been abject disappointments and this is expected to be a tightly contested affair.

Arsenal have dropped points in five of their last seven league games and while Spurs have put together a three match winning streak, the quality of their opposition during this spell can’t be ignored. Prior to that they had won just one of their previous six games, but they are unbeaten in five meetings with Arsenal so backing them to get at least a point is advised.

Verdict: Tottenham double chance

Both teams to score

Derby encounters can often be scrappy affairs, with the desperation of not losing often overshadowing the eagerness to win. That being said, the North London Derby has seen plenty of goals at both ends of the pitch in recent years.

There has been just one clean sheet in their last five Premier League encounters and considering Arsenal have conceded in each of their last nine games and Spurs have in six of their last nine league outings – all of which came against relegation threatened sides – we’re expecting another thrilling affair.

Verdict: Both teams to score

Over/under goals

As you might expect after reading the above, the goals often flow freely when these two rivals meet. Each of the last six meetings have featured at least two goals and both sides have been in fine goalscoring form of late.

Arsenal have netted ten goals in their last four games, while Spurs have gone one better and bagged 11 times in their last four.

Verdict: Over 1.5 goals

Goalscorer markets

There’s only one man you need to look for here. He’s a striker the North London Derby was seemingly made for. He was released from the Arsenal youth academy at eight-years-old and has gone on to become Tottenham’s talisman. That man is Harry Kane.

Kane has scored in nine of his last 11 starts against Arsenal and bagged a brace in both their midweek clash with Dinamo Zagreb and their 4-1 demolition of Crystal Palace last weekend. With 16 Premier League goals and 13 assists this term and an unparalleled record against the Gunners, he’s an obvious choice.

Verdict: Harry Kane to score anytime

Shots on target

Kane is clearly a standout candidate again, but we’d advise looking towards his partner-in-crime Son Heung-Min. The South Korean’s goals may have dried up a bit after his electric start to the campaign, but he still finds himself in plenty of shooting positions.

Son has attempted at least two shots in nine of his last ten Premier League appearances and has hit the target at least once in six of those.

Verdict: Son Heung-Min 1+ shots on target

Corners

Neither of these sides have been particularly prolific when it comes to the corner count this season, with Spurs being especially stingy in this department. Only Crystal Palace and West Brom have won fewer corners than Jose Mourinho’s side this term, contributing towards a low average of nine total corners per game. Arsenal’s sits just below ten per game.

Verdict: Under 10.5 corners

Bookings

This is a fiercely contested derby and even without fans tensions can run high. Five of the last six meetings have featured at least four cards, with a total of 36 bookings and two red cards being dished out in this short spell – a monumental average of six cards per game.

Last July’s clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw eight bookings handed out, proving that the intensity is certainly still there even behind closed doors.

Verdict: Over 3.5 cards

Player cards

Obviously with such an ill-tempered affair expected there are plenty of contenders here, but one of them stands out like a sore thumb. Granit Xhaka has long been considered Arsenal’s bad boy, and he really makes his presence felt when he faces up to their arch rivals.

Xhaka has been booked in five of his last six appearances against Spurs, including in the reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December. He has been booked 35 times in the Premier League since the start of the 2017/18 season.

Verdict: Granit Xhaka to be booked
