PDC World Championship outright prediction – Rob Cross to win at 14/1
Van Gerwen has lacked consistency this season and early exits at the Matchplay, Grand Prix and Grand Slam do anything but inspire confidence in the Green Machine’s chances of landing a fourth world title.
Humphries has been the dominant force in darts this term, but Cool Hand has never been past the Alexandra Palace quarter-finals and you’d want a bit more tournament form for a 3/1 favourite.
Price lifted the 2021 World Championship crown, but that was an event played behind closed doors and the hostile north London crowd will make it their mission to get the Welshman beat.
Gary Anderson is worth a second look, but at the prices, Rob Cross may have slipped under the radar.
Voltage won the 2018 World Championship on his debut in the event and there have been signs that the Hastings battler is getting back to that level of performance.
Cross has made the final of the Master and Grand Slam this season, he is inside the top-ten on the Pro Tour averages this year and the 33-year-old looks to have been handed a pretty kind draw.
The Kent arrowsmith is housed in the opposite half to tournament favourites Humphries and Van Gerwen and the seeded played in Cross’ section have it all to prove.
Jose de Sousa and Jonny Clayton have been way off their best, defending champion Michael Smith is all at sea using his new equipment and Voltage looks a bet to shock his Alexandra Palace rivals.
PDC World Championship outsider best bet – Jim Williams at 300/1
At 300-1 there is little downside to a small wager on Jim Williams. Andrew Gilding was a huge price when winning the UK Open earlier this year, Masters champion Chris Dobey wasn’t given much chance by the betting and 23 players have won a Pro Tour title this season.
Williams is a former BDO World Trophy winner and BDO World Championship finalist and the Quiff would have had achieved more in the PDC had he been able to fully commit to the tour.
The Welshman is in the top 20 when it comes to three-dart averages this season, the draw looks pretty good, as does the price.
