Another tumultuous season saw Manchester United finish a lowly sixth after winning just three of their final 12 Premier League games but the new season brings new hope in the form of Erik ten Hag.

The former Ajax man will be aiming for a top-four finish after bolstering his squad with a few new players and putting his stamp on the Red Devils.

With their opener against Brighton – who hammered them 4-0 in the penultimate game of last season – just days away, I take a look at some of the best bets on offer for Manchester United this season:

Bruno Fernandes to score more than Kevin de Bruyne at 5/6

2021/22 was a contrasting season for Bruno Fernandes and Kevin de Bruyne, with the former enduring a disappointing campaign while his midfield rival hit career-best figures.

The Belgian playmaker enjoyed his best-ever goalscoring season with 15 league goals. However, his nine-goal outperformance of his expected goals (xG) is unsustainable and he has never produced a 10+ xG over the course of a season.

Fernandes, still netted ten in the league from 9.23 xG and in his two-and-a-half seasons in the top flight he has scored 36 goals from 31.3 xG. It took de Bruyne five campaigns to hit these figures for Manchester City so I’m backing the Portuguese maestro to make a comeback.

Man Utd to earn 65+ Premier League points at 5/6

Last season saw Manchester United collect a miserly 58 points but that is their lowest tally since their 13th-place finish in 1989/90.

2021/22 was just the third time since then they have failed to break the 65-point barrier and with the Red Devils looking solid in pre-season and Erik ten Hag bringing a clear footballing ideology to the table I expect a significant improvement.

Over 0.5 goals in every Premier League fixture at 7/2

Just one of Manchester United’s 38 Premier League games last season ended goalless and one of the teams responsible for that bore draw – Watford – are now back in the Championship.

Only Liverpool and Newcastle managed to beat their 97% success rate and that home draw with the Hornets was the only goalless draw for Manchester United in any competition since April 2021.

Martial & Rashford to score 15+ Premier League goals at 14/1

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both endured torrid campaigns last year but they have the capacity to bounce back under ten Hag.

Both have shown glimpses of being back to their best in pre-season with five goals between them and they scored 17 Premier League goals apiece in the 2019/20 campaign.

Bruno Fernandes to get the most assists at 16/1

Bruno Fernandes’ first full season in a Manchester United shirt saw him register 18 goals and 12 assists and he has 25 assists since arriving in the Premier League.

Only Trent Alexander-Arnold (90) created more chances than Fernandes (89) last season and the Portugal midfielder led the way in chances created in 2020/21 with 95.
