Roger Federer was our 6/4 pre-tournament pick for the title, and he didn’t disappoint this week.
How Federer Won The Title
Roger Federer was in devastating form all week, and in the end it seemed inevitable that he would get his hands on the title. Federer spent less than two hours on court in winning his opening two matches, as he defeated Peter Gojowczyk and Radu Albot, by 6-2 6-1 and 6-0 6-3 score lines respectively. The defending champion was then given a walkover victory in the quarter-finals, due to Stan Wawrinka being forced to pull out due to injury.
The world number three got the better of the inform Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals, running out the 6-4 6-4 victor, to set-up his final show down with de Minaur. Roger Federer proved to be far too good for the Australian in the final, as he ran out the comfortable 6-2 6-2 victor. Federer didn’t afford his opponent a single break point opportunity throughout the final, underlining just how dominant he was.
This was Federer’s 103rd ATP title, as well as his record-extending 10th Basel title. A great week for the Swiss ace, and he’ll be looking to carry the momentum forward and end the season strongly.
