The Scottish Premiership gets underway this weekend and ahead of the big kick off we’ve taken a look at some of the options in the top scorer and relegation markets.

We’ve picked a player new to the league as an outside bet for top scorer honours, while we’ve looked at the to finish bottom market for our relegation selection as only one team will definitely drop out at the end of the campaign.

Scottish Premiership top scorer predictions

Kyogo Furuhashi at 16/1

Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard finished as the top scorer with 18 Premiership goals last season and leads the market for the top scorer this year at 7/2, ahead of Rangers pair Kemar Roofe (4/1) and Alfredo Morelos (6/1), but it is another Bhoy who has caught our eye at a big price in this particular market.

There are no guarantees Edouard will see out the season at Parkhead, indeed he may be gone before the summer window closes as he continues to be linked with a switch to the Premier League.  Roofe and Morelos are likely to share the goals again for Rangers as they did last season.  That doesn’t mean one won’t finish as the league’s top scorer of course, but it does encourage looking elsewhere and Celtic new boy Kyogo Furuhashi looks a contender.

Admittedly, it will be the 26-year-old’s Japanese forward’s first season in Europe but Celtic were confident enough in his abilities to fork out £4.5million to sign him this summer.  Furuhashi arrives from Vissel Kobe with an impressive scoring record having managed 41 goals in 94 league games, while he has three goals in six appearances for the national side.

At a big price and with the each-way option available for the top three scorers, Furuhashi could be one to watch in the season ahead.

Scottish Premiership relegation predictions

Livingston at 7/1

Hearts won promotion last season and we feel they look well equipped to survive this year, but fellow new boys Dundee could be a relegation contender.  Ross County finished third from bottom last year and are the favourites to go down, but Malky Mackay looks a good managerial appointment and at a short price aren’t worth backing.

One team that does stand out for value is Livingston.  Livi had a decent campaign last term as they finished in seventh spot but that was still just nine points clear of relegated Kilmarnock.  The Almondvale Stadium outfit have lost a key man over the summer as Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who scored nine goals last season, has departed for Aberdeen in one of a number of changes to their squad.

Livi struggled for form towards the back end of last season with just one win in their final 12 games, losing eight and drawing three, and if they pick up where they left off last term could be in for a tough season.
