Second 9/1 Tennis Accumulator Lands This Week!

What a few days this is turning out to be, as our second 9/1 Tennis Accumulator of the week landed on Thursday night, and it went as follows.

Dominic Thiem vs Marin Cilic was the first match on the Acca, and in what promised to be an exciting match, we needed Thiem to get the victory. Looking at both Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic’s seasons thus far, we were confident Thiem would get the job done. The Austrian ace won a title on home soil this past week, and he was coming into this one on a 5-match winning run. In what turned out to be a thrilling first set, Thiem edged it 9-7 in the tie-break, producing some fantastic tennis throughout the set. The second set proved to be a little bit simpler for the second seed, and he eventually won it by a 6-4 score line, to book his place in a maiden Rogers Cup quarter-final.

Russian ace Daniil Medvedev has been enjoying the best season of his career, and he was up next for us. Medvedev was taking on Cristian Garin, another player enjoying a good season, and we just needed him to pick up the win. The Russian ace reached the final in Washington this past week, while he’s in significantly better form than Cristian Garin right now. As expected, Medvedev proved to be too strong for his Chilean opponent on a hard court, as he raced to a comfortable straight-sets victory. Our Accumulator was now half-way home!

In what was the toughest leg of the Acca, German ace Alexander Zverev was taking on a confident Nikoloz Basilashvili. In this one we needed Zverev to win the match by a 2-1 score line for the Acca to stay alive, as we were expecting it to be a close contest. While Basilashvili did win their last meeting a couple of weeks ago, we had a feeling Zverev would turn the tables here. The German ace won this title two years ago, while he’s never actually lost a match here in Montreal. As expected, the match was close, and the players split the opening two sets, with each of them winning their respective set by a 7-5 score line. Alexander Zverev struck early in the final set to get a break, but he left us sweating as he relinquished it while serving to go 5-3 up. Despite the setback, Zverev held his nerve, and he eventually prevailed in a nervy tie-break. The most difficult leg of the Acca was home!

Last up for us was defending champion Rafael Nadal, as he took on Guido Pella. We needed Nadal to pick up a straight-sets victory in this one, and we were confident he would. These two had met on three occasions prior to this one, and on all three occasions, Nadal managed to win the match in straight-sets. Nadal proved to once again be too good for Pella, and despite not playing at his absolute best, the Spaniard managed to pick up a comfortable enough straight-sets victory.

Our second 9/1 winner in three days was in!
