Serie A Betting Odds: 4 Goalscorer Picks for Sunday’s Action
Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.
Serie A has been shredding its defensive reputation over the last few years, but this campaign is a real highlight with some fantastic attacking talents across Italy’s top flight. With the league’s strikers in fine form, we think there are a few strong candidates to score in this weekend’s biggest games.
We’re casting an eye across Sunday’s action, looking at four of the six games which feature our picks to score anytime. On top of those individual selections, we are going with a fourfold anytime goalscorer accumulator, which can be found at 10.5/1 with BetVictor.
Paulo Dybala
Juventus vs Sassuolo – 11:30am, Premier Sports 2
The league leaders are facing Sassuolo this weekend, they are chasing another victory after a brilliant run of form. We’ve tipped them for a 14th win in 15 in our Juventus vs Sassuolo predictions, with Juve thriving in spite of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward hasn’t matched his recent campaigns, as he has just five league goals after 13 rounds of the Serie A campaign.
Of course, that suits Maurizio Sarri, who wants a team who can share out the goals. He’s trying to get his team to click like his Napoli side, who had threats all across the pitch. Of course, they still need a focal point in attack, but it needs to be a player who is perfect for their new style. Sarri is getting the best out of players like Gonzalo Higuain, while he’s seen Paulo Dybala produce some brilliant football. The Argentine is shining under Sarri, with three goals in three games. He’s stepping up in a big way, so Dybala is our first tip to score.
Ciro Immobile
Lazio vs Udinese – 2pm
Serie A’s top scorer already has 15 goals to his name after just 13 rounds of the campaign. The Italian forward is on course for the golden boot, as he’s just the fourth player to find the net 15 times before the 1st of December in a Serie A season. That incredible run has helped Lazio into the top three, while we’re backing them to pick up another win in our Lazio vs Udinese predictions.
Immobile has scored seven times in his last seven meetings with Udinese, while the forward has scored seven times in his last six club games. We expect Immobile to add to his brilliant record so far, especially against a side who are looking far too weak at the back. The striker has only failed to score once across his last 11 matches for Lazio, so we think he’s worth backing to score on Sunday.
Romelu Lukaku
Inter Milan vs SPAL – 2pm, Premier Sports 2
While Immobile leads the way at the top of the scoring charts, there’s no partnership in Italy that can match Inter Milan’s. Antonio Conte complained when his side nearly missed out on landing Romelu Lukaku, but he already had Lautaro Martinez. The pair have become the perfect foil in attack. They compliment a strong side, who we’ve backed for a win in our Inter Milan vs SPAL predictions this weekend.
Martinez and Lukaku combined well in their midweek Champions League win, while the Argentine has played a key role in helping Lukaku to make a strong start. The Belgian has 10 goals to his name in Serie A. He’s scored seven of those in his last six Serie A games, so we are backing Lukaku to build on his brilliant start at San Siro. He’s known as a player who thrives against the weaker sides, while he won’t find as many as bad as SPAL.
Dries Mertens
Napoli vs Bologna – 5pm, Premier Sports 2
Things are far from perfect at Napoli right now, while we have pegged them to struggle this weekend in our Napoli vs Bologna predictions. It’s been seven games without a win now for the Partenopei, although Dries Mertens seemed to hit the right balance in midweek. While he was publically critical of the club post-match, he scored a crucial goal at Anfield in the 1-1 draw. He’s expected to leave Naples in the near future, but the Belgian will be chasing a strong finish to his Napoli career with Euro 2020 looming.
Mertens has scored 11 league goals against Bologna. He’s only one of four players to have scored more than 10 goals against a single opponent in Serie A. To make things even more impressive, he has scored those goals in his last six appearances against Bologna. The forward has scored in each of those six matches, so we think he’s a great pick to score against a Bologna side who can’t stop leaking goals. They’ve let in 1.8 goals per game on the road, so we’re going with Mertens to score any time in this clash.
